I'm looking at buying a 2008 low mileage 430 spider - I see a couple of red ones around 165/170k with 3-5 k miles and a silver one at 157k with 5k miles. The dealer with the red ones tells me (not surprisingly maybe) that silver is almost impossible to sell. Is there really $10k difference? Is $157 k a good price? (its at F Atlanta).

    Thanks

Yes, there is a reason they call it "re-sale red!".

I prefer all the other "off" colors personally. Yellow, black, blue, silver and grey.

Red definitely, although I had the dealer try and convince me that the tan interior was better. Then I saw black with red stitching and was sold!

The thing about Red is that more people want them--but this is often offset by the fact there are way more of them. I know lots of buyers who refuse to buy red. For them they are willing to pay up for the right color. Usually you don't really have to pay up for red as there are many available if you are patient.

Having said that, sometimes the rare colors sit because it takes a while to match a buyer up. However, having said that--when someone wants a rare color--they don't have a lot of choice.

There was an unusual CS that sold for quite a bit recently--I think the condition was good--but the super unusual thing was the color.

Could also be related to car use. If it's going to be a show car used sparingly, then Red would be best and traditional. If it's a daily driver, then red or yellow are heat signatures for police.

A more conservative colour, like silver, will attract less attention of all kinds - good and bad. As for price, at the end of the day, I don't think it matters as much as some say.

Mine is Grigio Titano and it gets plenty of good attention with less bad attention.

i recently bought an 08 spider, red

in my research, and knowing my local dealer, red seems to command the highest premium, black second...fact is you have to get what you like

pm me if you need more info

If by "silver" you mean Silverstone I can attest it is an extremely desirable color and further offer an opinion that your sales guy had his commission blinders on when he said they are "impossible to sell" I'm calling BS.

+1 That's the colour combo I ended up with as first preference. The full red stitching just is an eye catcher. Beige interior would have been our second choice but a pain to keep clean.
But in the end, if you plan to keep the car for a long while, then it's what YOU like that's most important. You're the one that's going to drive it with a smile on your face. :)

Very True! I drive our F430 at every opportunity and it is definitely a heat signature for police. So was our yellow F355.

When I bought my 2007 spider in the spring of 2011 the dealer had three red 430 spiders and my silverstone one. All comparable cars and I would say I paid a slight premium for the non-red car at the time. The Silverstone/Red Seat/Gray Dash Interior seems to be a desirable combo. I like to think it is a little bit under the radar and I can sneak around a bit more than the red guys. Easy to keep clean.

Almost everyone wants a red Ferrari as their first Ferrari.

After they get that out of their system, if they are bitten by the Ferrari bug, it's often "anything but red". Something more subtle, more elegant, not as attention grabbing.

However, for some others, it has to be red. As much as I try to move past red, for me, it has to be red with tan interior.

I got black on black as my car....didn't even think about red. For me, it was too typical a move. Definitely suffering now as black is a pain to keep clean. Would turn back though.

+1 on the Black! I have found the Nero Daytona to be a little easier to keep as the metal flake lights up in the bright Sun. Not only does it look spectacular it helps hide the dreaded swirls and haze that go along with a Black sports car.

Black on black all the way! Definitely agree on the Nero metallic theory - stunning.

I'll post some pictures of mine later on in the week when I'm back in the UK.

Ps. Looks superb with challenge wheels, CCB and yellow calipers.
