Certainly is most unusual as usually bottom of the nose, undersides of the doors, housing in trunk area are prime for rust. My car a 72 ,had totally redone I believe in 1976 and all the areas I mentioned where prime spots in only a 4 yr. old car at the time. The nose was then redone approx.3 yrs again for rust.

Has that body been restored before? Hard to believe in a 40 year old UK car! Congrats!

I thought Dinos had rust before even leaving the factory.

As Simonc and I have corresponded, I bought that car in Florence Italy in 1983, when it was black with tan. I remember hearing that though it was 'only' 10 years old at the time, they were notoriously rusty, yet I didn't remember finding any.

Glad to see that the subsequent years were equally kind to it, as the new owner is a superb caretaker to ensure another few decades of good health!

Many did as did the 365 GTB. Their real problem with rust was how the body panels had voids were water etc. remained. This was especially present in my case in the lower nose section. My car was always cared for but driven in all weather. The factory rust was a result of bodies remaining without finish out of doors etc. if I recall.

From the records I think it was repainted in the late eighties/early nineties by the owner before me (who owned it between 1988-2010) so I guess this has helped. What doesn't show on the pictures is that close up you can see that the metalwork is all original and has not been patched up previously, except for a small section on the vertical rear face of the boot lid.

As many times as I've seen this photo, it reminds me of nothing so much as a gathering of Dinos in need of serious restoration. It's a wonder that any of these cars survived for forty-plus years! Fred

Not just rust free...It looks to be remarkably accident free too.

I would have to think that this might have cleaned up some of the problem areas back then, but it is interesting the typical problem areas haven't been cut out and redone. Maybe it re-bodied before the repaint? Only kidding...
