"The greatest sport car ever.", they say..."it surpasses everything we've ever driven.". Emotions are beyond absurd battles of figures.
I didn't watch the video. And I hope you are wrong (or he misspoke, if he did say it). However, it would probably serve McLaren better, to have their never ending Internet campaign perform their bidding, instead of those 'dastardly, mean measuring apparatus', exposing it's speed and handling numbers with under performance , to many of it's most dire true believers chagrin.
I can well believe the la Ferrari being the most dramatic and emotive of the bunch . I bet it's glorious .
It's the reason why it would be my choice... with a 918 as a complementary more "serious" and functional achievement.
I hope not. However, I wouldn't be shocked if that was true, or the intention. Can you imagine if the Auto Car test is/was more the norm, instead of the more optimistic less refined/measured Motor Trend Jaunt the select few love to crow about? Can't have that, when your entire Internet campaign (and some of your overall media as well), have been built on innuendo, "hocus pocus", and [many unfulfilled] promises. Hmmmh. The British wags should know. But once again, I/we hope not (though you can only imagine that would be their wished intention, if they know the Autocar test is more indicative of it's performance).
Ferrari and Porsche are true Supercar royalty IMO . They know what they are doing , you know what they are going to be like before they are even driven . The Italian drama and emotion and the German clinical engineering and functional efficiency .
The good thing is that you can find emotion in german well engineered cars and efficiency in italian creatures. PS: I love brit cars too. But when they are not trying to be perfect.
True. German cars have become more emotional, and/or luxurious over the years (for years, they didn't even want to place cup holders in their cars). And many Italian makes have become more practical, reliable, and better engineered as well. Of course both countries makes continue to hold onto their true cores while doing so. That's good for everyone.
Yeap, he said that. I think he meant that Autocar wouldn't be granted another drive, unless of course they found a willing owner...
Would still be strange, poorly chosen words or direction so early in it's life span (to write off future factory cars). No? What if Autocar wanted to perform a future follow up or comparison test of the P1, like many of the other rags do (particularly the American ones)?
I would rather read some mad passionate posts than balanced, "matured" posts such as yours. Not sure if I agree with you about the "embarassing" thing. It's the most popular thread. It is not "P1 & 918 & LaF". It is "P1 VS 918 VS LaF". Especially if a guy plunked down a million bucks on one of these cars, he can say whatever the fudge he wants. He can say offer technical analysis or just call the other car a piece of turd. I want to hear it. Last of all I disagree the P1 offers the most attention to detail. It is a great car though.
If you don't like Ferrari get off this forum! Like you haven't told a lie in your life. At Ferrari we only modify the truth about weight and performance, nobody gets hurt and the wheels of business keep on spinning. What's wrong with that I say!
I completely respect what you wrote and agree about the reviews. I trust that the findings in autocar's track test were accurate for the P1. I do trust the newest road test though. The reason being is because it was the first outside of a mclaren controlled environment. I also don't read to much into SS expressions when it has to do with these three cars because I think that unless they are doing a legit performance test like they did with the P1, they are entitled to relate in their own way how the cars feel to them when they drive them. That only excuses some of what he said. Stuff like it's on a totally different solar system or whatever is a bit much. Lets face it. Because the hype and pressure from all us fans were so great, they felt the need to extra hype their reviews. This is journalism.
