Hi guys, My 2nd from left warning light (!) came on today. I assume that's brake warning light. does that indicate worn out pads/ disc or level of brake fluid? I am sending her to workshop on monday anyway but just want to have some ideas before I get there. Thank you very much Peng
Strange bro, mine is doing the same thing as well! Trouble is...the brake warning light is for real as in she will lose all brake pressure after a series of applications ONLY when the car is running and on the move. Did the test drive along a quiet road near my place. Other stranger thing is that when parked and ignition key turn on only (engine not running), the pump will run till pressure is built up and will cut off (warning light goes off). Even with a series of constant applications, the brake pump will still build up pressure and the light will more or less remain off (unless non stop applications). I cannot figure out why it is not replicated when the engine is running and car on the move. Once the warning light is on, it will stay on till I shut down the engine and turn the ign key back to on.
The brake warning light indicates either a low brake fluid level or the front wear indicators are "worn" making an electrical connection with one of the front discs - see my simulation of it in the 2nd pic. If your having intermittent pump pressure issues you may well have air in the system (my symptom was the ABS light randomly illuminating) it would be well worth bleeding your brakes. Thanks Jeff, will be doing the bleeding route and see how that goes since the fluid level is good with no leaks. All pads are pretty new as well.
Mine turn out to be just low brake fluid level (thinner pads down to 40% left) so we topped up the fluid and she is fine again. No leaking seen anywhere and light is now gone. phewwww
