Is the latest lambo better than the almost 5 year old 458? See article below: Lamborghini Huracán driven hard in Spain - wheels.ae Wheels magazine UAE's only English weekly motoring magazine, giving you the best car news first Below are two pertinent quotes: "The Ferrari seems to telepathically divine your intention by making a beeline for the corners apex, whereas in the Lambo its more a case of cajoling it and waiting for the front wheels to bite as you turn it in" "Where the 458 Italia feels almost like one of your own limbs, the Huracán is more like a bionic arm or leg, with computer software translating intention into action" Just one journalist's opinion. Lambo owners may feel otherwise though these cars have not been delivered yet.
Having not driven or seen one in person, it is so hard to form an opinion. If the above review and the one from CAR are correct, Lamborghini has finally been able to make much more user friendly cars. Lambos have been typically wild looking cars that are also cumbersome to drive. Hats off to them for making their car a more user friendly affair. CAR also thought the 458 was still a more involving ride. Something which makes me happy and just frankly blows me away. In the age of digitization and giant budgets, companies constantly leap frog each other. That Lambo didn't or couldn't is amazing. Yet, the Audi roots suggest at its core, the Lambo was destined for more usability than toss ability. Regardless, I applaud them giving enthusiasts a bold looking, tractable car to drive around in the real world. The place I spend 100% of my time driving the Ferrari. For some, that makes this car a more viable weekend toy. Best
From what I have heard the issue is that the car now has too much Audi in it which will explain the 'bionic' comments. Lamborghini was raw and savage but not a business. Audi has made it a business but maybe in taming the rawness and savagery, injected a little too much Teutonic influence thus diluting the Italian character?
Not really. Lambos were always savage but they were also cumbersome and unwieldy. The old Diablo was a pig through the twiesties. Nowadays they have become tamer but they still cannot touch Ferraris as far as involvement and feel goes.
I got both cars to fix this problem. Gallardo now Huracan on the way. 458 is great for sure but I love driving AWD fast on the curvy non-track roads.
I bet it's way quicker on the track. In the real world it's probably nearly identical in performance.
Eh, technology moves forward quickly. 458 is like 5 years go. 5 years is a long time in the car performance world. LP570/R8 GT were already comparable to the 458. Hard to imagine that more power, tq, less weight, and new technology wouldn't make it even better.
I have no doubt the Huracan will be faster than the 458, both in a straight line and around the track. Is it going to be "better" than the 458? Based on reviews, it's close enough for informed people to disagree, but if anything it is closer to equal than better. Huracan looks to be a huge upgrade from the Gallardo, and should be a big hit for Lambo, but I'd rather stick with the 458. In a year or so, I expect us to be having another conversation that favors the Lamborghini even less.
That Lamborghini looks far better than the 458, but a year from now when were are seeing $80k depreciation, the Fcar is still king.
The recent first drive reviews + videos by Jethro Bovingdon from Evo & Steve Suitcliffe of Autocar pretty much echo the above sentiments, so it is not just one reviewer that concluded this.
I predict nearly $0-15K depreciation in the first year. $80K? Not a chance. Order book is looking good and Aventador prices have been very good.
I've got a huracan on order and will take delivery in 18-24 months time after the teething problems and more options are available. At the moment you can't even spec the glass engine bay cover. The demo will arrive here soon so will take that for a back to back test drive with my 458. Can't wait to compare the sound to the 458
I had nothing but issues with Lamborghini customer service. You should always take that into consideration when spending $250,000 dollars. I'll stick with Ferrari who actually cares what I think as a customer. Eric
YMMV. Maybe your dealer just sucks. Ferrari doesn't care what their customers think any more or less than Lamborghini. If car companies cared about anything other than profit, the cars would be better and the companies less profitable. No reason to disqualify a car because of bad customer service imo. Hurt feelings don't make a product bad. The joy of owning a car while it's perfectly fine far outweighs bad customer service for a fraction of the time of ownership.
I guess the last 2 posters missed the original thread about my Balboni BTW the Balboni was my 6th Lamborghini, including 2 LP640's. I think I know what I'm talking about. Search is your friend. Eric
the huracan will be somewhat comparable to 458 until the new version comes out. Then lambo will be 2 steps behind. Just like it has always been and always will be. Lambos are poster cars rather than serious track cars. With that said, i do like lambos and I always liked driving them. No competition though
Just my view.... Huracan is missing the 458's style and refinement. Lambo owners love the look - I can't stand it. I will stick with a Ferrari. IMO Lambo has been chasing Ferrari for several decades.......
I don't know about being 2 steps behind. Aventador has much better technology than the 458 IMO. Weighs too much, but still very high-end car. I'd bet money on the Huracan besting the 458 on every track and in just about every metric. The car is just straight up superior in technology, and rightly so considering it's 5 years newer. I'd be shocked if they weren't able to make the Huracan better than an R8 GT from several year ago. I'd also argue that no car that can be driven on the street is a serious track car. Even the LF is **** compared to a track car. I can't help but remember that TG episode from 10 years ago when I saw just how much faster a race car is than even the highest end exotic. Lap time for a 10 year old race AM DBR9 race car was 1:08. All road cars are poster cars and **** track cars.
Apples and pears really, I cant see a 4wd car matching the nimbleness of the 458 around corners, the EVO review of the Huracan was very mixed, the car seemed very composed but bar the shape the sound was very Gallardo and while the 458 was engine wise a stop on from the 430 it seems the Huracan is engine wise very similar to the Gallardo. Styling is subjective and to me the Huracan doesn't compare the 458, the frontal aspect on the Lambo is to my eyes very challenging and overall the car looks too much like a squashed Aventador to me.
Good question-- Lambo vs Ferrari, which is better. We will have the answer pretty soon ... When Huracans start arriving, getting driven by owners and reviewers. But then the 458 replacement will arrive and the comparison will begin. Right now--in the shoutout between the Gallardo vs Italia, IMO the 458 wins!
I agree with your point of view, why bring out a new model if it cant beat the previous. The avebtador and the 458 are a whole different thing though. I would compare the aventador with an f12 just because of the power similarity and the characteristics of the v12.
The answer to all that is simple: Computers. These days the computers are what's making the car nimble. All those sensors calculating the ideal everything. The Huracan can send all the power to the rear wheels if it wants, so in theory it should be very nimble in the corners if the computer deems it ideal. Should have significantly improved rigidity with the CF hybrid construction and some weight savings. I personally can't come to much conclusion about engine and exhaust noise based on videos. Unless you have a very professional audio set up, the sound is rarely like the videos and very environment dependent. I don't really care how a car gets the job done so long as it gets done. Gallardo engine revs nicely. 8000 rpm, 8500 rpm, 9200 rpm... all feel pretty much the same to me. My issue with the Huracan is that is just looks too much like a Gallardo still IMO. Performance is nonsense these days. Looks is everything. Hopefully the 458 replacement is brand new look again, though I kind of doubt it.
