Howdy Staatsof, I don't remember you as you evidently recall better than I. It was quite a long time ago. It seems the "great" things about the car and myself add up to me drinking too much and supposedly driving out of control. Gee, if I was so out of control how did I live? Could there be an alternative view. Say, exemplery car control? NAH! That's just too positive. I agree that there were good times and a great car and some fantastic people (George Marin comes to mind). I admit I was an acting out wounded guy back then. And does my drinking behavior and false interpretation of my skill at driving really make a "great" story. Evidently the organizers of an event would rather focus on a more negitive recollection. I guess after all, that substantiates their elitist arogant, "shaking their heads." I'll chose to remember some great drives, some outstanding, solid and authentic folks that were really a joy to meet and interact with. (Except the guy that ran into me in the parking lot just after receiving the best of show!!) I am currently front burner involved with restoration of a 930 and a Model A as well as a host of other units, Boeing, and the domestic dramas and consequently I don't plan to frequent this site much. I will check back to check on Ivan if he cares to correspond via PM or here. If anybody reads this and knows him and would care to inform him that I am somewhat available to give him some hx of the car please do so. Good Luck and Continued Success, Gary Siemion
Frank was the one telling that story not I. I never saw you driving the car that night. Is this what's upset you? I don't remember saying anything negative about you or the car. Why would I? You were very generous in sending me some header insulation for my Bora way back when. George and I have been very close friends for many years. I'd forgotten about that incident in the parking lot. When Ivan bought your old car I suggested he look you up.
Gary, thanks for sharing your background and #1044 story. I'm sure Ivan will drop by and pick this info up shortly. And I think we all appreciate hearing the first-hand history that is embedded in every previous owner of our rare breed. The internet has its share of trolls. I've been a member for only two years, but feel the participants here are genuine and care greatly about all things Maserati, which we extend to each other. It's a small world and we know it. This forum remains civil even in protracted arguments over various Maserati minutiae. But we don't walk on eggshells either, members here often know each other well enough to give and tolerate a well-meant ribbing. Artistic embellishments do occur and are the responsibility of the author. I have not experienced outright or intentional meanness. Visit here for a few months and you'll hopefully agree. I can't imagine you have a whole lot of time to devote, but you sound like someone who would be warmly welcomed. Cheers, - Art
Yes, it was me who told the story and I stand by every word. I have no dog in this hunt, just relating what I saw. Was Gary drunk? In my opinion, he was at least half in the bag. Was Gary demonstrating great driving skills? I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say, yes, maybe. Well he lived through it and most importantly the car suffered no damage. Was Gary going twice the speed limit,? Most certainly. Do I care 30 years later? No. To Gary where ever you are I wish you the very best of luck in all that you do. You were the proper custodian of 1044 at that moment in history. Ciao, FGM
Hi Gary, I just sent you a PM with my contact information. It is still a wonderful Bora! Look forward talking to you. Ivan
Well its clear that you don't care. And what is "most important' ly." Thanks for the help in the past which is where I'll now leave it. Ivan I'll contact soon. Good Luck to All the Italian Automotive Pursuits, Gary
Distress could mean a ticket or a mechanical issue though. The only times mine broke down after I got it home and sorted was twice and bother were less than an eighth of a mile from my house. Both were also my fault. So take heart you'll get it sorted.
To offset Dean's circumstances and bring balance and harmony to the Universe - "Marco" treated me to a great day of driving around upstate New York Wishing everyone a good weekend, - Art Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Art, Great photos, I especially like the first one. Probably not too many cops on the prowl out there in the picturesque country side! Good Bora roads!
Thank you for the compliment Dean, Correct - no too many, but enough to employ a strict high-speed strategy: Only in short bursts, only in clear and open stretches, never near populated areas, avoid observation by anyone with a radio dispatcher (i.e. busses, road construction, survey crews, etc), don't repeat in the same stretch too often. This pic was taken 9:30 last Friday morning. Very pleasant NYS trooper. Interested in the Bora, but enforced a missing front license plate. So I zip-tied the front plate on this morning... and went for a drive. Redline in 3rd is pretty exciting and the sound is rapture. The video should be good. That photo had me concerned for a moment there ... I've never had a plate on the front of my car not sure how it would even mount? Figure out how to give him a ride or even a drive. I have a feeling that would be terrific insurance Art. We all know you're a bad, bad boy at heart and so does that officer ...
I refuse to mount a front plate on my Ghibli because it's just too ugly. You say I should just comply with the law? How about the law of aesthetics? I was just ticketed last Saturday for speeding (43 in a 25) and the dill hole didn't even notice I had no front plate...
Lucky you! My wife was arrested and thrown in jail after we were stopped with a too-small numberplate (which I had mounted only days earlier) by a cop looking for a bribe at 1AM. That was 3 years ago, on one of those nice balmy nights, driving my Ferrari 308 GTS. It certainly ended the fun, remarkable, as we had been driving that car for years without a front plate without problems, which is illegal in South Africa. I'll have to apply for permission to mount an Italian-sized plate on the front of my Khamsin. Best, Jack.
I mounted the plate on the front valance with zip-ties and body-silencing putty. Nearly horizontally. Brought a pic to traffic court on Monday. The judge dismissed the ticket. Nice to know I still have That Charm. - Art
Glad you all had a good time at Pocono, I took one of my sons on a 600-mile round trip to visit family and friends in VT, NH and ME for my Dad's birthday celebration. The Bora did great, not a single hiccup and a comfortable long distance cruiser. Plenty of luggage space for a week's worth of gear, clothes, sundries.. Simon had no complaints. 1. My aunt Jane loved the ride and hams it up with the Bora, Hampton Falls, NH. 2. Squam Lake, NH. 3. Ogunquit Beach, ME. 4. Simon relaxes somewhere in VT.
