Got a flat tire from a pothole last week. Had to tow the car 80 miles to my parents house (where I store the car). Was going to ask if I should just buy a used tire and throw it on there, replaced both fronts, or replace all 4. The rears have about 4/10 left, and the fronts probably about 6-7/10.
On my MB I hit a pothole and bent the rim causing the flat. The tire was actually just fine. I had the wheel repaired and they remounted the same tire with no issues.
If it were me.. I might get all cheap and throw a used tire on there to get me to a shop that will replace all 4. It would NOT be a long term proposition. Check the expiration dates on the tires.. if more than a few years old you're probably better replacing them anyway. Just do all 4 when you replace them with identical make tires.
Yah...I am kinda anal about tires...only part of the car touching the road...a new set of Michelins will set you back around 1K. Also, I guess it depends on how fast you drive...I have kids and loved ones in my car while I'm straightening the road so I just put a new set on....

They are originals from 2006 unfortunately I think the rim is 100%, I actually drove on it for 3 miles not even realizing the tire had a gash in it. Atleast I hope. Thanks, I already quoted out Michelin PSS's. I don't have any kids or a wife, but still do take people around in my car. So youre saying replace all 4. Wrong size, but thanks. I have a 430
You still drive with other people on the road. Dont screw around with tires, wheels, brakes. Those are the most important components of the car after you. Replace all 4. Cheap insurance.
Yes, replace all four! Mine were 8 years old also (only about 4300 miles) and when my mechanic removed the tires from the rims, the tires were actually cracking. They looked okay on the car, but they actually weren't. Besides, you may not have kids or a wife, but think about yourself (and others on the road with you). Next time, I'm not waiting 8 years. Please be safe.
If they are 8 yrs old...replace them all right away. I want to see you safe and having fun as a fellow owner...
At eight years max performance summer tires are like hockey pucks with no grip for cornering or braking. Ride like a truck, too. If you can find sizes to fit, Michelin Pilot Super Sports will make her feel like a brand new Ferrari.
yikes 8 yo tires! the CGT that killed Walker had 9 yo tires on. regardless of miles, replace tires every 4 years.

Agree 110%. The most important part of your car and so often overlooked. Everything comes second to the quality of rubber that meets the road IMO.
Page 5-24 & 5-25 in the owner manual on my 360 state tires 3 yrs old must be checked by a specialist and tires must be replaced in pairs on the same axle.
also, most cars are not pulling the G's around corners and doing 120mph regularly like our cars....oops open forum...not Really folks!
When I bring my car in for its annual, the service report gives a tire status of wear and age (DOT code). My last annual, the technician mentioned it was time to replace the tire due to age - 6 years. BTW, excellent choice in color for your car!
A hit that hard has probably cracked the rim. Not enough to bend it, but enough to leak air. Recommend having it dye tested for cracks. Technically, the accident is covered by your insurance, which should replace the wheel (if damaged) and a pair of tires.
I dont have any references for my 4 year rule. its my own rule of thumb... Spirited driving on dry rotted tired is a recipe for disaster. I do track my car, yes, and I dont drive enough to wear tires out.
I'm too busy lately, but I will take the wheel/tire off and run it to my tire shop. If its all good I will have a new tire put on then drive back to replace the other 3. Thanks for all your help. I didn't want to replace the 4 tires, but I guess it was time.
Update, I replaced all 4 with Michelin Pilot Super Sports. My tire shop let me drive the car into the shop, they did one corner at a time with a floor jack, and hand torqued the wheels. All in it cost me $1213 (no tax in Delaware). The car does feel amazingggggggg with the new tires, I cannot wait to bring it back out and enjoy it this summer.
