I seem to have developed a sort of slip/whine noise under hard upshifts. Strangely, it doesn't do this under race mode, only under sport mode. I will have to bring it to the dealer, but, via discussion, they said it could be the serpentine belt slipping under load. The explanation was that under hard acceleration, when the car shifts, the engine has so much compression that it slows quickly enough to slip the serpentine belt. The reason (they think) it does not do that in race mode is that the shifts happen so fast that the engine doesn't have enough time to drop rev/torque. The car needs to go in next month for annual service, they will address it then. Shifts feel fine, and it's only under full throttle upshifts in sport mode. Just curious, anyone else here ever have this issue? Thanks, Ron
Mine does it too. My dealer has the car right now and is looking into it. I told them it sounds like the belt slipping under hard acceleration during up shifts. Mine did it in race and sport modes. Doesn't feel like a transmission issue to me. The car drove and accelerated normally. I was out on a cold 45-50 degree day driving it pretty hard. Hope it's nothing more than a slipping serpentine belt. Otis
Thanks, I should also note the temperatures are also 45-50. Didn't notice this in warmer weather. Wonder if colder temps are a factor.
First really warm day to take the car out and drive somewhat hard. Did a 1st 2nd 3rd run to almost redline. A small chrip is heard on each upshift. Not sure if its the tires or the problem as described above. Tire temp about 40c, road temp about 20c, car fully warmed up, in sport mode. Have a track day soon and will try to get a better sense of it. Good thing the local service center is right at the track. G Sent from my SM-N9002 using Tapatalk 2
2013 spider here, also does same thing under hard acceleration. 2000 miles. thought it was normal? it's just a noise the acceleration doesn't seem to slip. originally i thought it could have been some air intake gulping
Have this "chirp" on mine. Dealer told me its been done "on purpose" - as a feature. Keen to know if this is BS or real?
My 458 has almost 13k miles and does not do this. When I go in for my annual service in June I will ask to see why I am missing the "chirp". Best
mine is a 2013. The car pulls and drives normal, so maybe it is just a mechanical noise that is "normal". I drive the car almost daily but very little chance to do hard redline shifts, will have to wait for the track day to better feel it.
I have the same issue on with my 13 model italia. Service told me that it is normal. I have the noise both in RACE and SPORT mode but it is more pronounced in SPORT mode.
I had a nightmare about the 458 transmission issue last night......it was so vivid that I almost called the dealer this morning! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
while on my way to the dealer this morning to drop off the car for the installation of the data logger, the check engine light came on just 2 mins from the dealership, what perfect timing. Not sure what's the cause, but picking up the car in a couple of days, will find out.
Not sure I could agree it is normal, I have had the car for a year now (about 4K miles) and this noise only started in January. It wasn't there before, now it is. Something has changed.
That's funny. Ferrari service department as psychoanalyst of dreams. BTW my August 2010 build made a chirp once in a 1-2 shift. It was some time ago. I have not heard it since.
hi ron, i had same belt nosie befor, and today i just change a new belt, but when i hard push the car still have a little bit noise on race mode, but alot better than befor, the dealer says it need a bit time to dissapear,is this same on yours ?after you change belt it is gone street away or take your a while, thanks
