Load of ballocks...
Not slamming any of them, they're all special in their own way. Do you guys ever stop complaining or arguing?
Great Chris Harris article. As expected, the LF is a fantastic car. Interesting how he says the closest competitor is the P1, and makes no mention of the 918.
Poor rich men, just insulting for all the people going there With passion and never be able to own such car! It should be painfull to order a car so expensive without any kind of desire.
Mr R.F. With a garage of at least five Ferraris, a Ferrari valued VIP customer, finds the LaF to be a sensual screamer (great for one night) and the P1 an intellect he wants to put a ring on. A customer who will receive his LaF in a few months would rather have a P1 than a LaF. Is this Ron Dennis?
Read that comment again - in hindsight, probably a doubled-edged sword for Porsche putting journalists in the car to attract more deposits before they had a finished product. Now its not even an "also-ran" despite the fact that it should probably be mentioned in the same sentences. >8^) ER
I actually like all 3 for different reasons. I would reserve judgment until multiple side-by-side comparisons of all 3 and the officially released Nurburgring times of all 3 before suggesting any of them is an "also ran!" We already know that some journalists have embarrassed themselves with sensationalism and lost credibility. I understand Porsche will be back at Nurburgring with "the finished product" with new OEM tires. Ferrari is testing the LaFXX at the ring too! Many more fun-filled data and analysis to come on this forum!
I just said it wasn't an also-ran. It didn't even garner a mention at all. Also-ran's at least get mentioned. My whole point was Porsche jumped the gun allowing journalists in an unfinished product. This "But wait, there's more..." approach to development and marketing with the 918 seems to be doing them a disservice now. >8^) ER
I am sure there will be updated tests once the product is final (should be now..). Porsche would be dumb to not invite the press again. And i doubt any mags would turn down such an invitation.
sure, the same way SS, CH, drove both. the same way P1 'will' smoke 918. we all know how that's working out. you are being beyond ridiculous here. enjoy your 1mil + car. or like someone already suggested...sell the LaF, buy your P1, and pocket the extra 1mil. silly silly bickering...
Of course, but at the same time... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5w_bd0Ii_WY]1980s Head & Shoulders Commercial - YouTube[/ame] >8^) ER
For once, you are spot on when it comes to another car than the P1. Actually a very clever summary of why the 918 is percieved as it is at the moment.
Sounds to me like Rupert's LaF allocation should've been given to someone else, as is unfortunately the case with many of the clients that will be recieving LaF. It's a shame they are not all as enthusiastic about the car as say Peter Mann. So many genuine enthusiasts have dreamed and tried everything to get their hands on an allocation, but have missed out...
Eh. Chris Harris would never admit he was wrong about the 918 (and many things he said about P1 alleged speed vs it) at this point, like his country mate Steve Sutcliffe. Harris is a "Flat Earther" at this point. You're not going to change him. Porsche could obliterate the Autocar track/test--leaving the P1 for dead; followed up by Woking wussing out of another H2H Top Gear showdown, and he would remain loudly silent (yes I said "loudly silent"), and/or chattering the same nonsense as if nothing happened. Great Auto Journalist. However, no biggie at this stage (if that's the attitude) to Porsche I'm sure? As far as your question earlier: Porsche always says when you start the ignition the default mode is "E". Obviously if you "floor it", it acts in whatever mode the rotary dial is in. I guess the question really is: Can you leave the car in Hybrid mode, etc., and restart it with the engine firing up? Probably not!? 2) Can you turn the rotary dial to Hybrid, etc., with out the key, then start the engine (after inserting the key, then turning the ignition)? 3) Or do you have to turn the ignition, then turn the rotary dial into Hybrid, etc., to hear the engine. And can you do this while stationary? If you notice, in this video, they start the car in "E", then creep a bit backwards, and fire up the engine (it doesn't appear as if they floored it). So you wonder, if you can turn the ignition, turn the rotary dial to hybrid etc (when the car is stationary), and have the engine bark? It's not exactly what you ask. But it's close enough. You can imagine what I suggested. More importantly; you get that cold start, low rpm, race bred engine rumble, warble sound someone was looking/asking for earlier. FWIW: It appears like a Porsche PreProduction factory car with the numbers near the side vent. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewanO4FVFLY]Porsche 918 Spyder SOUND in Hungary - YouTube[/ame]
