Hillclimb Roadtest: McLaren 650S Spider with Nic Minassian | Goodwood Road and Racing whole next level. just becomes obvious how McLaren has moved the goal posts. just amazing that he says the car is better than him!
Precisely, the French race driver who's verdict is used in this McLaren infomercial mentions the standard 458 but the way this clip has been setup with a lot of 'british flag waving' throughout does only show the 650S driving up & down Goodwood Hill. So no comparison test, not even particularly insightful as regards the 650S.
There are 2 things about sound : 1. Loudness : This is not the most important. A lawnmower is also loud, but doesn't sound good. 2. Quality : This is the most important. The best sound quality is F1 cars (not 2014). It has the high screaming sound, means race car. The 650S sounds loud, but not screaming. Without seeing the car coming from distance, you will guess that incoming car could be honda civic with custom exhaust or a turbocharged SUV. But for 458 from distance, only 1 guess : racing car is coming.
I have, my friend had the first one here in Miami and he previously owned 5 different 12C's (yes he is nuts) he also has 2 F12's LOL. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The mild refresh in looks was a downstep imo and a less cohesive design than the 12C, I really don't like the lack of scream to the exhaust, and finally the wheels look terrible and take away a lot from the positive design elements. Here are some cheap konig wheels for reference. If I were to "vs" it against a speciale only in numbers alone would it ever win anything. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Will have to see the 650 in person. But, so far I am liking the 12C design better. Reminds me of the F1....
Let us be honest, Ferrari is not the "only" super car. The fact that some have to find something wrong with an equal or better car, well, it is just sad. To be clear, I own and truly and enjoy my 458 better than my Twin Turbo Porsche (so do realize some are better for "me" than others) but the 650S is every bit as good and arguably better than the 458 for those who prefer it. Best
650S is definitely an improvement over the 12C and a worthy competitor to the 458. But I would rather have the Ferrari for the subjective reasons and its already really fast. I think the place the 650S really stands above the 458 is the spider version because the 458 spider really does exhibit too much cowl shake and this is a place the carbon tub really pays off.
you can tell he's being polite. he's a pro. in all honesty, comparing a 458 to a 650s is just not fair. its a different category of car. i will stop. and go drive my f12 now to see what's up her sleeve.
If I had to pick one out of those - I'd pick a speciale...... .......i have already placed an order for a 650s spider...hehe
I'm happy that the McLaren is so often shown in FerrariChat, especially in the 458 section. Special thanks to all McLaren enthusiasts! It's always a confirmation that Ferrari is doing everything right. Superior model policy, precise product positioning, sustainable design, with each product launch for many years benchmark for all the followers. 650S, nice car, in some points certainly great. Lone Wolf gets it right - why not as an inspiring addition to a Ferrari car park.
I agree and I really like the 650 S . But I don't see all that superiority that someone seems to underline . Just add an extra 45 hp to the Speciale and then we could have a right comparison between the two (since the weight is similar). This just to remark the pure numbers, not the feeling. Since the feeling that the two cars offer to the driver is sure different and anyone can choose what he prefers..Even if I personally think that there is only one winner of course..
Um, yeah, I didn't see any 458S in this video. I don't doubt the 650S is quicker, but this video does little to prove anything.
On July issue of Road and Track ,Chris Harris seems to confirm that there will be a super test for 3 days between the Speciale, 650 S and SLS black Series...Very intriguing...
