Since my car only came with one key and one fob (red) ...I want to clone my fob and put the original fob/ key in a safe place, and use the clone as my primary.

I figure F-chat might know who on the forum does this in a fashion where I can feel safe sending an extremely expensive fob off in the mail, which I will insure and send certified mail.
If the post-office loses it, I wont have to spend 3K getting a new one or new ECU.

I often wonder where the hell the other keys and fobs are. I could not contact the previous owner since this car was bought at an auction, and I bought it from a non-Ferrari car dealership in Ohio. The owner of Valley Mitsubishi sold it to me. I am stuck with just my Red fob.

Anyone reputable? Have you done this? I suppose I need to find a good key-blank as well, but would like one different and nicer than the OEM black, tiny one. Any leads on this?

    Thanks!

If you'd looked at any of the many other threads here you'd know that in the States the recommendation is Gobble

PM Gobble. He has done it for several FChatters including mine. Just make sure you send it insured mail.

Please realize something - this is a risk!

If it get's lost, you are screwed if you don't have the PIN number - you will need to spend $2K on a complete new immobilizer kit (parts only).

To clone the FOB, the chip is un-soldered from the board. While Gobble has done many of these, we are all human and this is a risk too.

    Something to consider.

Thank you...Yes, I saw a lot of info and a few options, but this post just widdled it all down for me. Gobble it is. The consensus works for me, and cleared my doubt on whom to choose.

I would not use the clone and put the other fob away. If you do that, the rolling codes will get way out of synch and it could take hundreds of button depressions to get the stored fob to hit a rolling code the Alarm ECU has not seen. Best technique is to rotate the fobs on an almost daily basis so the rolling codes do not get very far out of synch. If you do that, it will only take a few button depressions to get a new rolling code the Alarm ECU has not seen.

Gobble can store your fob contents for you if you ask, or even send you a CD with the EEPROM print-out on it. That way if you ever lose the original or the clone, he can duplicate the EEPROM contents on another fob. Would still take many button depressions to synch, but eventually it will work.

Note for daily use, there is no difference between a red fob and a black fob. The PIN in the red fob is only used for initial programming of the Alarm ECU to accept the set of fobs and the red fob cannot be used again to program the ECU to accept new fobs.

Funny, I have a clone and got a bit lazy with the rotation. This morning I had to stand there and press the button nearly 150 times, sigh...

Mark (gobble) did mine too but I included a prepaid overnight (insured) fed ex return for him to use.

    Good luck.

+10 on Gobble, did mine and happy with it. Fast service and reasonable cost.
I rotate between my red and black fob every time I drive. Keeps the rolling codes ... Kinda close. Also an extra fob battery IN the car WITH a jewelers screwdriver that fits the fob key could stop the panic of far away from home and your battery goes dead.
Next is the Allen wrench to fit the side cover in the engine bay to access battery jumper studs. I already put my $31 dollar Kia Sephia mirror on the passengers side .... Awesome I can see.

Wow! And I thought it would just be identical. All of the swapping sounds like a real p.i.a.

    Guess I have no choice.

When I get the new one and test it out....will I have an issue going back to the oem fob? Meaning will I have to beep it multiple times to disarm?

It's not that bad, only if you get lazy (like me - think it was over 30 days and I drive her a few times a week at least). The real reason you do it is insurance against a lost fob - awful thought if you were to lose or damage the small bit of plastic that allows you to start the car.....

I have some extra fobs right now if anyone needs one. I'm not sure if someone is playing trick on me, but I've had three people in the last week ask me to get a total of 6 fobs for them and now that I bought the fobs zero correspondence. So if anyone needs a fob they're here, both US and Euro frequency.

Gobble is the man. I've sent multiple fobs to him, the only ones that I have for cars, to be cloned, and he has always delivered and they always work. I'm a happy customer, and I highly recommend his services.

Another A+ for gobble. He turned my only fob around in a matter of days. I think 5 days from the time I put it in the mail I had the original and working clone back in my hand.

Scroll up and look for GOBBLE click on him and send a PM, another PLUS for Gobble did mine and still happy happy happy

Side note, every time I start the engine I change fobs ... Max pushes is usually 3 and I get the beep beep.
Use the same one over and over, and you may be pressing it a few hundred (thousand) times, trust me hang it on the garage wall and rotate fobs every time you start the car .... As someone mentioned above 150 times ;(

Guys, for those of you that have your pin code, I now have a procedure where I can make one or two matching fobs that sync just like a new dealer bought set. You would need your existing pin though to make this work. PM me if you want to know more. I've heard complaints about having to push the button multiple times on clones to catch the rolling code. I think we may have solved that but only where you have your pin.

I went to Ferrari of SF a few days ago; they are a factory owned store, not an independent dealer. "Impossible to get the pin regardless of ownership documentation. Give us $3K+ or pound sand. Thank you, and don't forget to do the belt service on schedule. Have a nice day."

Don't I remember that there have been a couple of friendlier dealerships mentioned in the past? I have another 'sketchy memory bit' regarding turning key and counting clicks. Is this a way to start the car without the fob, but with the pin, or a way to determine the pin?
