True or false: sources tell me a LP400S right hand drive sold in Europe for 700K, did not have any miles on it?

    Seems steep..Then again, I was recently offered a LHD LP400S (S1) for circa $600K.

One of the best examples of an S1 extant just sold 2 weeks ago for $480,000 US.

    Real value.

    False.

You are confusing this 'story' with Sheik Amari's LP500S with a few hundred miles, that sold in the highly unique UK RHD market:
    http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/news/selling/800023447/449-mile-countach-sold-for-450000/

This is exactly how rumors from "sources" start.

Look on the bright side: at least now you know for future reference that your source is inaccurate!

Confusing what "story"? There was no "story". I was asked if I knew of an Lp400s selling for 700k. I said I did not and would ask. And that I did. Now I will pass it on. Thanks you for the info....as always.

The S1 is one of the most desirable variants. If it was a great car it was a buy and will likely look like a bargain in a year.

The story of "an Lp400s selling for 700k".

    That story.

That story being confused with a real story of a RHD LP500S selling for a high amount.

Clearly there is an erroneous story being perpetuated, not by you, but by your "source".

Peter I know you mean well, and you also know I like to keep it real.

    Best,

We should all be expecting and ready for a lot of BS about cars and their values/sales, as this is just part of being in a market bubble.

    It has its original engine.

Engine numbers which are +2, then +4 etc are discussed earlier in this thread.

A lovely original car that ought to stay that way!

    Learned something new today. Thanks.

    Agree, keep original.

Thoughts on the estimate? Even with my pessimistic future view, this seems low-ish to me. But given recent "estimates" tend to be low, this may just be in keeping. I think the high end of the bracket is where it will go.

OTOH, I was recently watching some or other auction (Mecum?) and it seemed like the collector car bubble was bursting before my eyes. Reserves not being met left and right. Nice early 120 Jags not garnering retail, etc. But often we see what we want to see.

I think Joe S. can explain better than me.
In general collectors paying high Prices have a narrow bandwidth of cars they are willing to buy, immaculate original state, low milage and known history.

All other cars keep rising the Price taking collector cars as a reference which they do not meet, therefore you find a lot of normal cars for sale which are priced 50% too high.
These cars don't sell over years, we see them going from dealer to dealer and the Price still rises, have a look on autosout.ch for the few countachs on the market and you see what I mean, same for the Jalpas (I know all these swiss cars in Person).

Countach at Bonhams brings: $1.1 million. So much for Bonhmas low estimate.

  21. That is the first 1 mill or more Countach. WOW!

I thought one brought $1.2 million last year? But maybe that was with the buyers premium tacked on?

Should not be a surprise with over $1 million Miura SV sales. The LP400 is a better performing car in every way than the SV. An LP400 is also better built in every way than an SV. An LP400 is also just as rare as a Miura SV. A Countach does not lose anything to the SV in looks either, although what is loses to feminine, curvy beauty to the SV, it more than makes up with aggressive, masculine, and shockingly futuristic looks. This will continue to happen as the Countach get older imo. The only reason Countachs have trailed Miura so far is that they just aren't old enough. Everyone remembers new Countachs in 1989, so the 'Countach' idea is not quite 'vintage' enough yet. Having driven them all, that is my opinion. Joe, what you do you think?

  24. I knew it was coming. Like most everyone else, just not when.
