So the fire started very soon after you filled the tank.
Can you remember if you filled the tank completely full?

    Grateful for your warning here.
I'm looking for a Halon extinguisher.

And, there's lots of chatter about chemical extinguishers damaging the aluminum & block. Halon doesn't.

Yes, filled up until the pump shut off, no topping off.
    That too!

Cannot buy Halon extinguishers in europe.
    They are banned.

    What's the next best alternative?

I have seen UNION-TANK CONNECTING PIPE(#25) cracked and I have also seen the COLLAR FOR SLEEVE(#26...there are 2 of these) not sealing properly due to age/heat.

    Both of which produced fires..

If memory serves me correct it was rather difficult. I did mine on an engine out service which made it a lot easier. If engine is in you have to remove radiators on driver side....it is fairly difficult with engine in....no look see just commit to replace as safety precaution.
I got some new ones here somewhere in the parts bin..lol

I replaced the sleeves just to be on the safe side after being on the car for 15-16 years.

Can it be replaced with the engine in?

Bob, you can see them in this photo so I imagine you could put the car on the lift and see them from below.

Anyone know the difference between Halotron vs Halon? I see 2.5 lb Halotron units for around $90. Its listed as more "environmentally" friendly than Halon and costs a lot less for the same size unit. Manufacture wed site lists it for Automotive, Auto Racing, Aircraft and Marine uses amongst many others.

You missed the point. Without the engine, the problem of fire has been eliminated. :)

I normally don't fill my car up until the pump stops in order not to have fuel in that stem. Someone told me that awhile back. Maybe that is prudent practice given this issue as well.

Found the Kidde ProPlus 2.5HM which is a 2B:C rated Halotron extinguisher (2.5 lb) for $92.97 with free shipping from zoro.com. No bracket though. Also see one manufactured by Buckeye for just under $90 on some other sites.

We used to sell them, but shipping is very dicey because of the FedEx/UPS restrictions on the canisters, as "Dangerous Goods".

Maybe it was you Tim that told me that! That's pretty much what I shoot for as well. I specify a dollar amount taking a guess at what will take it to that level.

Glad no one was hurt. You should know if the filler tube leaks when you open the cap to fill up. There should be some pressure build up in the tank. You should hear the air escape. A little common sense check every time you fill up.
