No not at all . I decided against 2 hyperbrids . Instead I was lucky enough to able to add a black enzo and a 288 gto to my f40 and f 50 . It made more sense to me , the p1 was not really fitting in with my requirements nor did I lust for it . Though I'm sure such a monster has enough fans to keep mclaren happy .
It was thanks to this forums very own joe Sackey that I was able to find one of the best gto's out there .
Hello joe , the pleasure is all mine . I want to thank you so very much for your help .
I will (with your permission) put up a thread regarding our gto , I'd like to thank you in public .

Quick question, are the 918 and Laferrari's drivers compartment FIA certified or do they need a roll cage? I just read that the P1 is FIA certified.

What you have read is incorrect , it is not fia certified . Neither car is , even though they may meet ( or even exceed ) certain fia requirements and /or criteria that's very different to fia certification .

P1s Monocage is FIA certified with the optional metal roll cage installed. The Monocage was designed to allow the tubes of the roll cage to be installed invisibly within the carbon fiber structure.

I think we need a more detailed response .

My understanding was (and this came from mclaren) that a rollcage option would be offered that would meet or exceed fia requirements . Not necessarily that it was or they even felt it needed to be.
It's a tiny distinction but one worth making.
It's easy enough to confirm , all that kind of paperwork is available directly from the fia . No secret squirrel on stuff like that . Though kind of irrelevant .
The Carrera gt cell was stronger than the 996 rsr's but why bother with fia?

True - I don't know if the certification has received an official stamp yet but am aware of at least one P1 customer who is pursuing the option.

The real plan should be to keep it rubber side down at all times. ;)

Thanks mate , I completely agree btw
Peloton , some buyers have been told rollcage is not an option . Is this a homologation thing , a regional thing or is it in fact no longer available ? Personally it wouldn't bother me as I know how strong that cell is but I find the different information interesting .
    Sorry

Congrats, Wtdoom, great collection you have.

Sorry to hear McLaren didn't get your vote with your wallet.

Hope you can get your Laferrari soon. And congrats on your 918.

(All 3 hybrid hypercars are great. I don't remember a time when 3 groudbreaking hypercars were introduced.)

Down the road, I hope the long term performance and practicality of the hybrid systems of these 3 cars can be evaluated and compared. Like the lithium ion batteries on cellphones and laptops, I assume these batteries will die after 2 or 3 years, maybe sooner because these 3 cycle from charged/uncharged a lot faster. What then? Which company can provide the most practical battery replacement scheme? Which company can implement advances in battery technology? It think this will determine the long term value of these 3 cars more than anything.

In terms of practicality, I think the 918 wins hands down.

In terms of straight line acceleration I think the 918 will leap off the line fastest, the three will be very close up to 100kmph and the P1 and LaF will pull away.

The LaF is a car investor/collector's dream come true. It will never drop in value (to MSRP), I believe. It is also a huge status symbol, if I may be so blunt. Although all 3 cars are.

The P1 is a thrilling land rocket. All those on the waiting list might as well forget it, unless you're the 2nd or 3rd on the waiting list, because hardly anybody is cancelling their order.

The 918 is a daily driver hybrid hypercar. It can make you look good on the track. It'll hold it's value quite well, not as well as a LaF, but better than a lot of people think. For the first three or four years there won't be many 2nd hand cars avail., because anybody who sells their 918 within 3 years will have to give up 7 years of 918 VIP program.

Modern lithium ion batteries last a lot more than 2 or 3 years. Tesla uses laptop batteries. These batteries hold 70-80% of their charge after 3 years if used properly. The same cylindrical lthium ion cells used in my macook pro have 95% of the charge after 1 1/2 yrs (6644mAh checked today, and I use it unplugged daily). Porsche warranties their battery for 7 years. I know LaF and 918 batteries are state of the art and I think the p1's are too. Who knows they might offer lighter batteries a few years down the line.

Agree with everything you've said. I have read that Porsche committed to on going development of the 918 throughout its life. I am pretty sure the other two will too. With near certainty, one can predict that battery technology will advance rapidly - certainly in 7 years (the warranty period). Wonder how much faster each car will get with advancing battery technology!

They won't get any quicker with new battery technology since the power of the electric motor/s is not influenced by that. They will only deplete the batteries more slowly.

Yeah, energy density - more amp-hours per weight of battery and probably improved longevity of the cells in terms of charging cycles.

In the P1 case maybe they will even work sometimes without warning messages! Such much progress! ;)

About possible future battery improvements.... possibly lighter weight. Or increased range.

If Lithium Air battery comes comes to fruition, the improvements will be significant.

If the battery can output a stronger current, it is possible the acceleration will be increased in all electric mode.

Look at Tesla S60, S85. The S85 accelerates faster and I believe it has the same motor. The P85 has a different motor. 918 accelerates 0-60mph in 6.2 sec in electric mode, a lot slower than Tesla(P85, Roadster,S85). Only the front wheels & motor are driving the car in e mode.
