Been down this road before and know how I feel about it but have a few questions about getting a 360. A few years ago I bought a red/tan 6sp 8K miles from a dealer, drove it for about 6-7 months, sold it and didn't loose a single penny on the car. I was able to recover the trucking fee, PA sales tax, etc. It was a blast to have a 360 for several months and was 100% trouble free. I'm beginning to think about getting another 360 since the last one I had was fun and didn't really cost anything to own. I'm sure there was a fair bit of luck involved and I realize that these cars can be expensive to own, repair and maintain.

So here are my questions and thoughts. I don't see me owning this car for a long time, maybe 12-36 months at the most, probably just for 2 summers. Also not looking to spend more than about 80K so that leaves out a red/tan 6 sp spider, etc. Experience tells me that resale red is key, 6 sp manual also a bonus. But since I am not looking for a show car I'll look at other combinations but it's gotta be either red/tan, red/blk or blk/blk and due to price a coupe.

What are your thoughts on any aftermarket additions, do they help or hurt the resale? I feel that aside from wheels (especially 430 rims) and exhaust everything else should be as original as possible. Reason I ask is there is a blk/blk 6 sp but someone put an aftermarket stereo in the car, complete with what looks to be a 8-10" sub behind the seat. I certainly don't mind it, but I need to look ahead and consider resale.

If I decide to pursue this it'll have to wait till after the driving season when the weather turns and the calendar gets close to flipping which will add another year to the car. With my price point I'm pretty sure the car will be a 99-00 with a small possibility of an 01-02, definitely less than 25K miles.

So there you have it. What do you guys think would be the correct combination for a 360 to keep for a year or two and not loose much money on the car.

Cheapest low mileage car you can find.

Just like most cars, modifications don't mean much. My 360 has 50k of mods which is all down the drain at this point.

If you can find one under $70k thats not yellow or silver thats recently had the timing belt service - you can drive it for a couple years without a hassle put a few thousand miles on it, and be in great shape.

I don't think you need to rule out a 6 speed spider. The only trade off, which isn't a bad one, is that it might have miles in the mid teens. Proper maintenance and care, you can get a well sort out spider that is going to give you years of enjoyment. I have had my spider for a year and without revealing price, I was not far off that price mark and it is a 2003. Had the car for a little over a year, and only issue was a small cam shaft adjustment and an annual service.

Search the threads (ebay, auto trader, cars.com, various Ferrari dealer websites, etc.) and I think you will find the right car for you. Good luck with the search and be sure to share the results.

Good job on the last one. That is not easy to do.

I agree, aftermarket additions do not add value. Some actually pull the value down.

Not sure if this would work, but if you get one with carbon fiber bits, maybe you could sell them separately and replace with original parts for less money.

I also don't mind upgraded stereo systems, but I think they also pull down the value. Right or wrong, I think when people see subwoofers in a 360 they think it must have been owned by some young punk who would also abuse the car and not maintain it properly. Maybe just take them out and sell them separately?

Agreed. If you want a good value, buy from October to December. Sell from March to June.

I found silver, blue and maroon be the lowest price. Yellow seemed to be one step up and then red. There are a couple of cheap cars of different colors on cars.com but you know about cheap cars.

Lately I am drawn to blk/blk. The red one I had was an attention getter. Maybe the black would be slightly less noticeable. Doubtful, after all it is a Ferrari.

A Tubi or Capristo exhaust may help value slightly, or at worst be neutral. Same as for 430 or Challenge wheels. Any other aftermarket changes, in my view, hurt value, especially if it looks hard to reverse. The exception might be stereo, if it's well-executed and looks reversible. A quick scan of various ads will reveal all sorts of modded body work and other cosmetic changes that just kill resale.

I'd love an aftermarket exhaust. I'd be ok with 430 rims even, but after that I begin to wonder if it will alter resale value. My biggest concern is the aftermarket stereo stuff. After owning a 360 with Fabspeed exhaust, why would anyone want to listen to the stereo??

Of course I'd like a 430 but I also need to stay married! Loved the experience of owning the 360 and if I do this it'll mostly be price driven. Definitely not looking to spend 90K+ for the lowest mileage 360. Not sure I would feel OK buying one with more than about 20K miles either.....
Initially thinking less than 80K, red/tan 6sp with under 20K miles would be awesome, but a blk/blk manual would be good too.

What would your mileage limit be for a 360? Would you feel comfortable buying a 360 with 35K miles? What about trying to sell it when it has 50K miles??

I'm thinking if I can get this done for 67-80K and keep it well maintained, just how much could it really depreciate? 10K for 3 years of ownership...not bad in my mind.

Insurance, registration fees, annual service, belt service needed if you want to resell at top value, maybe tires, etc.... Not quite free for 3 yrs. And that is without any "surprises"
