Can anyone recommend one just need to be able to read the codes and delete. Thanks
If you just want an OBDII reader that will show you the EPA mandated engine codes, there are dozens and most will erase a CEL for you. If you want something that will look at all the systems, you need an SD2 or SD3 at $25K or a Leonardo at ~$20K. Plus, without training, an amateur using an SD2/3 can be a lot like a dog watching TV.
You need to be careful when you buy a OBDII now. Many of the newer OBDII readers make you select what car you are using it on before it will work. You guessed it, Ferrari is not an option. The ones at Advance Auto, Auto Zone etc. will not work because of this.
For real diagnosis you need to spend $$$ on a proper tool. I'm about to pull the trigger on such an item but in the meantime I use a cheap Elm 327 bluetooth device - it connects to my Andriod tablet perfectly. If you have an Apple device then buy a Elm 327 WiFi as they don't like to connect via bluetooth. The key bit is what software to use - the most important part (IMO) is to be able to connect to both ECU's. After being tipped off by a friend, I use EOBD Facile which is free to download. It's a French bit of code but works well and the UI is in English. Crucially, one can select which ECU to connect to prior to reading the codes. Just to extend this a little further - if you get an error note the engine operating state when the code was thrown as well as the fuel trims. It'll help the internet diagnose your problem more easily! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can you read both ECUs and the TCU with this ELM327 and the French code? Are the codes from the TCU useful and interpretable?
Thanks for that information Aldous -- I checked into those and there are quite a few variants on Amazon.com -- any suggestions on which one or doesn't it matter as long as its ELM 327 WiFi (I have an iPhone)? Thanks Alan Amazon.com: elm 327 obd-ii wifi EDIT Actually this one looks like yours. Alan Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've only used the one I pictured. My understanding is that you need a bluetooth one for Andriod and WiFi for Apple. So long as your tablet/mobile can connect to the reader you'll be fine.
Aldous I just noticed that one is for Bluetooth. I'm wondering if any ELM327 WiFi scanner will work? Amazon.com has a ton of them from different manufacturers. Alan
I have an Elm 327 wifi unit and run the OBD Fusion iPhone app. Works pretty good but app is like $10 and the Elm was like $21. It knows it is a Ferrari when plugged in you don't need to tell it what kind of car it is.
I would guess so. What are they, $10? The software is free so your downside is minimal if it doesn't work....
Does the app connect to both ECU's? It might be worth compiling a list of software that allows connection to both banks.
I read that if you do it with iPhone you need wifi unless it is jail broken. I got mine on amazon prime. I got the wifi. Works great.
I have the ELM 327 too. Using Torque Pro on my Android phone Samsung S3 and both works great. You can read codes and clear codes. Torque Pro program is $5.00 and ELM327 OBD2 bluetooth adapter I believe I paid $25.00 for. Works great. Dan
Can you get Torque Pro to connect to both ECU's? I couldn't when I tried the software out. I know I keep banging on about it but if you aren't given a choice which ECU to connect to you are only getting half the picture.
I have the Innova 3160 which works great for me, but if I understood correctly the ELM327 will read Ferrari-specific codes so I was going to buy it as well. Can anyone confirm this and tell me what Ferrari codes they were able to read?
Does anyone have any photos of where the port is located on a 360 and F430? Most of the WiFi ones appear much larger than the Bluetooth ones.
