Hi to All Need some help please, 355 2.7 motronic CEL 1-4 has started flashing and cannot get it to stop, have pulled fault codes and only comes up with 4444, have cleaned all connectors and checked everything I can think of, the only thing it did start doing was blowing the fuse for left hand fan and after checking all wiring it then stopped blowing fuses. "strange" the only thing I have not done yet is swop over Ecu's which I shall do in morning, would really appreciate any help if anyone has had a similar problem or any ideas. Thanks going for a beer now its done my head in today
4444 does nto sound like a good code Try some of the threads in the 355 section with CEL in the title Enjoy the beer
Thanks for your reply Greyboxer. From what I have found the code 4444 means no fault found, have looked through various threads and cant find anything related to this problem, so am a bit stumped. Will have to keep on looking.
slow down lights can only be read and cleared with an SD unit. Even disconnecting the battery will not clear the fault.
Howie, with due respect that is not true. I have just worked through a whole sdl issue on my car and have been clearing the sdl with my OBD reader. Granted mine have been of the blinking variety and were false positives but I am able to clear them. The reason I asked the OP if he was mistakenly calling an SDL a CEL is i haven't seen a blinking CEL. ???
Thanks Mitchel. Is the SDL system the same? I just thought that if the OP was referring to a SDL rather than a CEL I might try and help him resolve that.
Interesting. I havnt been able to clear them out with the OBD readers at all. I've only been able to read and clear slowdown lights with an sd or the leo. I get manufacture controlled emissions faults from the OBD readers, but not the ability to clear the light.
The only thing I can surmise is that the whole SDL thing is quirky. In my case there is/was always a pending OBD code or a CEL that on clearing those codes the blinking SDL goes off. This has also been in conjunction with addressing the problem that is causing them but in the process of diagnosing the issue the SDL has come on and I can clear it by clearing the concurrent OBD code.
I have always been able to clear the SDL and the CEL light with the reset command on a generic OBD2 scanner on my 96. I cannot be sure if this is the same response on a 2.7, OBD1 type of car.
OBD I codes are erased by pressing and holding the diagnostic reader button for an extended period of time after the 4444 code appears. I can not speak to the SDL on an obd I car as I personally have never had one, but the CEL will come on for an OBD I pending code. If the code does not reappear in a designated period the ECU will turn the CEL back off and may erase the code. I had this happen once after I changed my cats. CEL would come on for a few minutes then go off. When I checked the codes, there were none. Finally it came on as I was pulling in and I checked it immediately. Showed an O2 sensor code. Turned out I did not get the O2 sensor plugged in all the way after I replaced the cats and it was making/breaking contact. I hate to try and diagnose things over the internet but the OP may has a similar issue where the ECU is sensing a momentary problem and turning the CEL on, then turning it back off because it doesn't sense the error again soon enough. As in my case, I would suggest checking the codes as soon as the CEL goes on. Could be something like an old O2 sensor that is slow to respond or a dirty MAP, or just a loose connection.
It is the CEL that is flashing 1-4 but when you short pins to get fault codes it just comes up with the code 4444 which is no fault found, but the CEL continues to flash very weird.
