Is this the Italian Job Miura ?

    So maybe they used 3372 for audio? I was thinking that if that was the case then maybe they did some studio pickups to edit in the shots of Beckerman behind the wheel? Then I saw the orange metalwork showing through in those shots so maybe not?
    Haven't had this much fun reading speculation and theorising since the TV show "Lost". I just hope we get a more satisfying conclusion!

    It seems the production had the car for only 4 days end of june. In the snapshot here under with Beckerman driving, the orange metalwork can be seen.

    BTW, these fantastic period pictures have been given to me by a period crew member. I would like to thank him for these shots and the time spent to answer my questions about the movie.

    "Might" being the operative word!

    I don't see much in that photo alone, as interesting as it is, to say anything conclusively one way or another.
    But then again I think you're holding back on us.

    I am not a film industry specialist, but on the picture there are two lights mounted on the bonnet probably to lighten the driver and what seems to be a camera mounted on the passenger door. This configuration would tell the crew prepared the car to shoot some driver scenes. This would match the Beckerman driving scenes. Then the background could have been shot separately and the rear projection technique used when editing the movie back in UK. Again, this is a supposition.

    I was also told by a retired interior trimmer who worked for Lamborghini in the UK that he often had to change interiors around, the car in the film seems to have leather head rests but the seats appear to be trimmed in black cloth, maybe they changed the seats for the film

    So are you able to tell us what the crew member said? Did he mention anything about audio for example or maybe alterations done to the car to aid filming? What about that number plate?

    Well, to be honest we have not spoken about audio. He was a young crew member working on one of his first movie and it is more than 45 year ago. He remembered the shooting took place around end of june 1968. He remembered the orange Miura and the camera mounted in the trunk that they had to switch manually from one to another to shoot different scenes. But that's it, not more.


    The number plate seems to be a factory test plate on which the word "PROVA" had been hidden for the shooting. Can anyone confirm ?

    That would seem logical to me as well. Anyway a white perforated leather headrest and a black cloth seat does not seem to be a regular factory combination delivered to a customer. If so, that would mean that whether the headrest or the seat had been changed for some reasons. As the leather stripe behind the headrests is glued to the firewall, it seems difficult to change whereas swapping the driver seat with a black one could be done in few minutes.
    In addition, swapping the driver seat for a black one, would save the original white seat prior delivery to the first owner.

    The PROVA plates were all BO xxx[x] so BO296 is very likely to be one. Only a few numbers were used and swapped from car to car so period pics of other cars should provide the evidence. Also this is a low number with later Countach/Urraco/Snorkel on BO 348 from memory. Further if it was a PROVA plate this would have been in Italy, otherwise an EE plate would have been used.

    I'm surprised that you did not know that P400 seats & headrests also had these perforated patterns, as has been clarified above!

    When you have a full view over a huge puzzle with on one side the whole story and on another side all the models, sometimes you may confused some details... isn'it.

    I doubt very much that any of those particular shots are rear projection. Rear projection from that era is usually horribly obvious, never convincing, and this looks like the real thing.

    The tacho of the Miura as seen in the snapshots is not perfectly round and ends like a tip. The same shape of the tacho is found on #3586.

    From the film intro sequence I can confirm the position of the BO 296 script in the bottom half of the rear number plate is consistent with a PROVA plate with the top section covered.

    Regarding dates, on the published Silhouette lists there is a "test date" and a "delivery date". The delivery date should be regarded as the consignment date. There is no mention of a production date. Finishing off was carried out after testing was signed off.

    To me it seems likely that filming was carried out after testing and prior to delivery. Does anyone know the test date for 3586?

    Would Lamborghini really have allowed the filmmakers to let the actor playing Beckerman drive the car for his scenes behind the wheel?

    Are you able to compare or even count the stitches on the seats and/or the dash? These were all hand sewn and would be slightly uneven, especially on this early car. Are you analysing grabs from blu ray?

    Regarding the seats....

    Did the colour of the Miura headrests always match the colour of the horiziontal section beneath the head rests?

    Did the colour/pattern of the headrests always match the colour/pattern of the seats [delivered cars]?

    If both are "yes", the seats must have been changed to black. This may have been for protection during testing [was this standard practice?] or for filming.

    Thank you P300V8, it would be interesting to know if these "test dates" did exist for the Miura.
