While I am a Ferrari enthusiast, as a patriotic proud Dane, I can't do anything but cheer for Big Mag and Mr. Le Mans, and our guys in the Astons. It's been one of the best starts ever. Now a little water to mix it up nicely - that's endurance racing.

Wonder how Sam Bird got caught up in that, and why was the Audi going so slow? The replays weren't helping much...

Was it because of the LMP2 sliding into the walls?

Was it because of the slow zone? How come it didn't kick in for the Toyota? Very odd...

    Bird's 458 #81 collided with the #3 Audi . The Lapierre Toyota#8 was in a separate incident.

Olly Jarvis has seen some footage and says it's likely Sam Bird's fault. The Toyota aquaplaned and then the Ferrari just kept his foot in, slamming into the back of the Audi''

''If that's the case, there's just no excuse''.

    Sad for them.

Both the Toyota and the 458 were going way faster than the cars they came up on.

that was my fear...cars trundling through a slow zone at 60 kph, a few cars arrive on the scene at full speed and plow into them. granted the rain (low grip, poor visibility) played into that but from the onboard from the factory Porsche RSR, the Toyota and 458 were going 50+ mph faster than the traffic they ran up on.

I think allowing the drivers to police themselves down to a reasonable speed is ultimately safer than creating what is effectively a pit lane speed zone on the middle of the circuit (and policing it with GPS).

What's the whole thing with the tires? Do teams have (very) limited sets available? Audi tried to use their tires for their 4th consecutive stint and are now losing 4 seconds a lap to toyota on new tires. Wheels are all centerlock so the stops shouldn't take that much longer.

Michelin brought new tires this year that are capable of 5 stints(at least those that they developed and supplied for Audi). Audi is probably in traffic and that's why it's losing time atm.
