Great pictures, also good that you have left the castings as they are with the slight purple tinge.

Looking for some help,,,, was driving QV today and felt the clutch pedal getting very firm on a couple shifts then all of a sudden went to shift again and clutch pedal was locked in the up position. No matter how hard I pushed it would not go down. Anyone every have this happen ????

Sounds like it could be a throwout bearing going bad and seizing. Don't drive the car or you'll ruin the clutch arm and maybe the pedestal as well.

When I got it back home and on the lift I disconnected the linkage from the Slave cylinder to try and determine if it was something inside the transmission that was locked up or broke and the pedal is still stuck in the full up position. So I guess that's a good thing ? Is this a problem that could be caused by a faulty Slave cylinder, and if so how ? Thanks for your help so far.

Agreed. Not the slave, when they fail the pedal just goes to the floor without resistance; unless you have some floor mat issues it must be the TOB.

Hi Autosport you say you have removed the linkage from the slave ie part 15 in the diagram no 6 ,and the pedal is still stuck up so if there is no linkage from the slave to the tob it cant be the tob, either a jammed pedal assembly or jammed clutch master cylinder.
If you have a look at diagram 19 and remove the pin number 4 if the pedal then moves your master cylinder is jammed.

Are these 2 of the last 5 or 10?

Hi GraemeS, I was unable to disconnect the linkage but instead I tried once more to push the pedal down. I braced myself and pushed as hard as I could and it did go down so it's not a pedal stuck situation. With that said do you think it's the Master or the Slave cylinder most likely to cause this condition. The linkage to the tranny bell housing is still disconnected, so the problem is not anywhere in the transmission. It takes a lot of force to get that pedal to move.

Cruising around on Saturday, this LP400S S3 has existed away from the public eye for the most part for the past 2 decades.

Off to a new home shortly.

Hi Bobby, noticed you had the same exact white pig tails on the fire wall that mine have.

Any idea what those were for? I've spoken to a couple of guys they have no idea what those were used for.

No idea. They were not hooked up to anything.

I just purchesed my old 83 Countach back and they are not hooked up on that one as well.

You should see the condition they found that car in, along with the boxer they got with it. They were in storage for about 30 years. Super cool find and I, for one, am glad they didn't do the barn find thing and present it all dusty and dirty. I think it will do very well at auction.

I think one of those were used for a cold idle solenoid and the other may have been for a brake light mounted close to the rear window. This is merely speculation so take it for that.
