You read that part wrong......he was transferred to another Hospital (closer to his home).
News black out will continue, per the family's request.

He is not in ICU, in the new hospital.
So it's "good news, but not great news"...

The parts about at least eye response to his wife is the best part I read, in any of it.

I can only imagine my OWN response, which would be something like:

"What happened?...and &^%^%!! does my head hurt!"

    Poor guy.

Nothing to do, but play from the field position you have (as the post above shows so well!!)

I actually have woken up in a very similar position, once a long time ago.
It's a real thin line, between life and death.
He's still on this side of it.

My bad. All I heard was that he was out and not being transferred but that makes sense.

    Happy belated Fathers Day buddy.

    More - small - good news ??

According to "Blick" (so take your precautions here - you decide if you believe this or not) Michael was conscious during the whole transfer by car, kept his eyes open most of the time and is able to communicate by nodding the head...

"Blick" found the ambulance company that has been in charge of the transfer, which was organised like in an espionnage movie, with the attending persons not knowing whom they were going to take on board, and were obliged to give their cell phones.
The persons who drove Michael said that he has lost a lot of weight, but confirmed that he is able to communicate by nodding the head.

The speaker of the Lausanne hospital confirmed the transport and that Schumacher is at times awake or not. Meaning MS is not fully awake with a regular sleep pattern but rather in and out.

This is similar to reports we heard earlier in the year. However it seems the awake phases are now more often and prolonged.

Here is today's update; which is about what we expected. Although, I'm surprised the hosptial is speaking so openly about this....

Hospital admits Michael Schumacher outcome uncertain

    Wednesday, June 18, 2014

    From GMM

The hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland, has admitted F1 legend Michael Schumacher could be there for the "long haul".

News that the great German had left Grenoble, where he has been in intensive care since his skiing fall in late December, and is no longer in a coma, was met with elation the world over.

But Britain's Telegraph newspaper cited a source close to the Schumacher family - who are otherwise fiercely guarding the former Ferrari and Mercedes driver's privacy - as confirming the 45-year-old is 'drifting in and out of consciousness'.

And Darcy Christen, the Lausanne university hospital's head of media, confirmed that Schumacher's stay "won't be days. It could be for the long haul".

"The transfer doesn't mean that his condition improved markedly in the last few weeks.

"He is still going in and out of consciousness but he is having more moments of consciousness more regularly than in April. He certainly can't talk but there is some degree of communication.

"His doctors and family speak to him but he gets tired very quickly and needs a lot of rest. So this is kept to a minimum," he added.

Italy's La Repubblica newspaper also quoted hospital sources as revealing that Schumacher had been moved from Grenoble to be closer to his home in Switzerland, and because he no longer needs to be in intensive care.

"It will take a few days for him to stabilise completely, after the transfer," the hospital sources reportedly said. "Then the rehabilitation will begin."

The report also said Schumacher's moments of consciousness are brief, but that he is sometimes able to communicate by using his eyes.

"It will be a very long journey, and it is hard to say what will be the outcome," Christen said. "Whatever happens, it will take a lot of patience."

He said Lausanne's neurology department is headed by field leader Professor Richard Frackowiak, and is one of the best-equipped and modern in the world.

"It combines care and research in the best way. There is no better place for Schumacher at this time," said Darcy Christen.

Which is to be expected for head injuries such as this. He's probably going to have to learn to walk and everything else all over again.

Firstly, thanks from me too for the very positive update.

As for them speaking so openly, I'm sure Darcy has been well & truly briefed by Sabine, who is on record as saying (something like) "unless the news comes from the family, me, or the hospital directly, consider it speculation".

Hopefully, this Darcy chick is as professional as Sabine and is simply giving a factual update. Expect nothing more from her until there's some "real" news.

Like many others, I've been following Dr H's blog, and the often heated debates that follow in the comments section. He's been criticized, harshly on occasion, but in general has been one of the 'saner' commentators IMO.

Here's his response to someone who posted a 'similar' story. (My emphasis)

I'm not going to post the original reply that prompted this response, you can read it yourself if interested. It's close to the top of the replies in his "Good news?" Post.

    I'm stoked.

I'm just gonna believe the best.

It will take time. I may be fooling myself but I'm hoping for the best.

For me, he's passed that line, at least we now know that he has some consciousness.

From this point, I'm gonna believe he has the fight in him to get to the point where he can live a decent life with his family.

I may be wrong. But I'm not gonna consider that.

    Go for it Schumi.

    ^^^What he said!

"If anyone can, Michael can!" :)

Sure, we all know there's a hell of a long way to go, and life may not be the same for him, but I'm also going to believe (until Sabine tells me otherwise! ;) ) that he can overcome this BS.

    Godspeed Michael,

My speculative, optimistic, don't tell me I'm wrong (for now) belief is this...

Sometimes you work hard building determination and perseverance thinking you are doing all this training to become a Formula one champion, it is only later in life, after a bad ski accident, that you realize all the focus you built, was really to work your way out of a bad coma.

I want to believe, in a Mr. Miyagi sort of way, that his whole life has been building up the strength to travel this hard, long, road through the night and back into day, so he can grow old with family, friends, and fans. In that order.

I think if anyone can do the work, it's him.

I agree entirely. In rehab the most important factor is determination. Michael has that in spades.
