After feeling Ho Hum about the TTS's lack of performance, or at least seat of the pants lack of performance, my son and I did a little canyon run this morning. I can now officially say that the TTS is faster than my 458 in a straight line. We didn't push to hard in the twisties and know they'd be very close on the track with a pro driver. I find it estonishing, but it's true. The TTS is a rocket.

The TTS is still a vanilla ride compared to the super fudge peanut butter crunch of the 458. But hey, Vanilla is still the number one flavor in the world and what I prefer on a daily basis. The 458 on the other hand it pure adrenalin and still preference for a Sunday drive.

Yes, the 997.2 turbo s or even the PDK 997.2 is faster than the 458. As well as the new 991 turbo. Combination of turbos and DC makes them super fast. Launch control is out of this world. Great cars. But, they do lack the Ferrari soul.....

Yup, that is true, I drove both the 997 Turbo S and the 991 Turbo S and they feel dead even, and dare I say the 997 actually felt a bit quicker, anyone else feel this between the two?

Saying all that, the 458 regardless of speed feels absolutely terrific.

I have owned porsche before (991c2s) and will probably own one in the future in gt3 format. The 991 tts and 458 are hardly comparable, except from a pure speed point of view. I respect that the tts is very fast but in my countless drives with my friend driving the tts, it has no chance in a straight line against the 458 between 100-250 km/hr (yes we regularly do that range) though it does have an advantage in the 0-100 km/hr range.

I've driven the tts more than once, which is entirely uneventful compared to the highly dramatic 458, though both have similarly high capability.

The looks, the attention, heads turning, and photography/interviews by strangers are an epidemic with the 458 and almost non-existent with the tts.

The 458 sound is intoxicating, the tts sound is largely missing.

In the acceleration tests the 997.2 is 4 or 5 miles an hour faster in 1/4 mile. Same times though. I haven't driven 991 yet.

Interesting and timely for me. I may be adding a 991 GT3 to my garage, but salesmen told me to drive a 991 tts for one day last week. For over 200K USD, I wasn't overwhelmed. Too much of a GT car, but is a great car.

I own both cars and agree with you. As good as the 458 is it does not keep me from enjoying the TT. If I could only have one car for everything it would be the TT.

I also have a TT and it is German "gets the job done in a hurry", no nonsense, nothing extranous. The 458 also goes fast, but on the way, "touches your soul". Best

The Bettle may run faster, but the look and the sound (Italian word = passion) is far away from 458. If drag race is all you want, get a much cheaper Datsun GTR, bring it to a performance store called Switzer, and I guarantee you, even LaFerrari will need to use launch control and hit the red line every gear to deal with you. LOL.

So true, I just sold my modded GTR and while it was a rocket, it lacked driving connectivity and rawness. I also have a 997 S manual which is an awesome car but there is something magical and pure with a Ferrari that nothing can compare to.

I´ve a speciale and a 991TT S. I can contribute on a track a speciale and only a speciale ist faster. But on highways no chance against the Porsche.

I am very surprised to hear you say you were disappointed with the lack of "seat of the pants" performance with the TTS. The one I drove had so much torque available at any RPM that I really thought that it was an area where the car excelled!

Funny I am in the midst of selling my Jeep as I got tired of looking at my 458 sitting under the cover for a week at a time. I plan to DD the 458 (my commute is >20 miles per day round trip. I was considering if this didn't work out to get a TTS coupe and just use one car all the time as I always have.

this was my thinking too...ho hum performance from a turbo Porsche?

they have always been known rockets since 1975!!!!!! I found that it was a surprise that the turbo was actually fast:)

I challenge anyone to spool up the Twin Turbo and tell me they don't feel they are strapped into a rocket ship. What I think is being misunderstood, the "ho hum" is in contrast to the "magical" and inexplicable "feelings" driving/even sitting in a Ferrari, which is absent in the TT. As for "speed", anyone finding fault with the TT must be a professional drag racer (lol). Best

agreed. at (semi) legal speeds the TTS feels cold and detached. beyond that it excels in delivering torque but no sound no feel nothing special. on track it is heavy and uses tyres very fast. i fail to see the sense of the car.

I owned two 911's, one a twin turbo. Found both to be fast but boring. GTR delivered more thrills, which is saying a lot given how subdued the experience is in a GTR.
I owned an M3 Comp Pkg (until yesterday!) and it delivered far less speed, but significantly more smiles and visceral reactions than either car above. Was hard to let go of it.
Every time I am tempted to get the latest 911 TT or a 991 S, I look at a video online of the same boring experience and pass. Yes, the GT3 would be different and I would consider one if the engines in year 1 we'rent all going to devalue the ownership experience. Maybe next years model run+, which is when most of you all will consider one too, if even for a second. And then go back and drive your Fcars!

I had both (458 gone with Speciale coming). I was never a Porsche person and just thought (never drove a Porsche) they were expensive VW's. Got the TTS and I absolutely love the car. It is truly an everyday car and when you need it its "deranged" in terms of speed and capability. I have used it "in anger" on some very twisty roads for extended periods and it really is fun in Sport Plus mode. I did a full day 900kms in it and other than petrol stops did not take a break. I could simply not do that in the 458.

So I guess each has their strengths and to me (if you can) having both is the best of everything.

why couldn't you do this in your F458? i have done vienna-milano, vienna-MC and vienna-rome in one day (all around 800-1000km) and had no problem.

TT is not boring, wicked fast and is everyday usable. Love mine. The extra you get from a Ferrari is emotional. The exact reason no other exotic interests me.

The only 911 model that can come close to 458 is GT3. Still the look is far away.

IMHO the GT3 is not close. Doesn't have the look or performance. It's just rare right now because of the engine issue. I canceled my order.

Recently sold my 2011 458 (what a wonderful machine) and should get my F12 in the next month or two.

Have a GT3 coming sometime this September if Porsche does not continue to screw up. Not sure I will take delivery car has a lot of taint to it and the poor customer support by Porsche on this issue has really diminished the brand in my view.

Ferrari is just so superior in performance, sole, sound and excitement. Porsche has not changed the car for 50 years.

I'm totally excited about my on order 2015 Italia but there is something very special about my Porsche (aka Mistress according to my wife). Can't wait to see my grin in the 458. :)
