What a stupid sport F1 is turning into. I only watch the races - turn on Sky watch the pre-race, race and post-race show but don't follow it outside of that. So I'm not fully up to date. Now endurance racing on the other hand, that's where things are happening.
The further back you get from F1 these days the better it looks. Sausages are delicious but you really don't want to see how they're made.
The tech team sux-the chassis is horrible and the pu can't be developed thanks to the regs. Stupid rules. Time for fry and tombazis to go.
Tombazis seems like a pillock. Wondered for years after watching the Ferrari youtube interviews why he hasn't been let go. Isn't he their chief aero man? Give the car some damn downforce!
Oh yeah, that's where we have; - Almost as many classes as there are cars (I'm being a little facetious here ) - You build a decent car and get BOP'd with extra weight and/or your PU has to breathe thru 'an orifice the size of a hummingbirds sphincter' (courtesy, Dan Gurney ). No thanks. Cheers, Ian
Thank you VIZSLA ! for stating one of the most enticing reasons for being Ferrari Tifosi "Ferrari is the only team that has ownership, aero, powertrain and chassis in one location" Since I have been a "real" F1 fan (14 yrs, watched every single race, quali, practice's) And have also been A hardcore Ferrari Amercian "Tifosi" I will always support The Scuderia in F1 Right now,we are at our worst. It can only get Better !
Firstly, "welcome the crazy world of Tifosi'ism!" (If the Viz can use podiate, maybe it should be Tifosiate? ) Good for you!... But only in F1? Would you follow if they went to Le Mans, for example? Or do you have a different team in WEC? Or, like many, you couldn't give two hoots who wins the WEC? Unfortunately, you're mistaken on both points there! As you've noticed, many different people here blame many different people there.... To some, it's all LdM's doing, others the drivers, the team principal, designers, engineers, aero nerds, PU builders, truck drivers, the tea lady, etc etc. Bottom line, F1 is hard, and nobody, not even our beloved Scuderia has any "right" to be at the front the way some here seem to believe..... Cheers, Ian
Precisely! The good thing about Ferrari's getting their collective face rubbed in it, is that it forces them to get real again. The SF equipment AND TEAM are some sort of mess right now - we can disagree about what kind of mess, but it's obvious MOST of us agree that it's a mess - and they are now faced with a stark, "sink or swim" scenario. The outcome is uncertain, despite our wishes that Ferrari will figure it out. I hope they do, of course, because nothing makes me feel quite like watching Ferrari win. It's been an addiction of mine for many, many years now. Cheers, George
Look at LMP1. Three manufacturers. Three different powerplants and three distinctivly different cars. Can sign on that I certainly am no fan of BOP (nor am I of the current GTE technical regulations) but it creates some good racing without adding articifial measures like DRS. Yes all the classes get a bit messy for the casual observer, but in F1 it's not like you follow all 22 cars. You pick a few, same with WEC. In essence I think endurance racing is something followed mostly by those who've to some degree moved on from F1 or other similar forms of motor racing. It's certainly possible to follow both, but I think WEC is followed by a more mature crowd so to speak. WEC certainly isn't a very beginner-friendly thing to follow.
We've got *eleven* different manufacturers in F1..... And soon to be four different PU suppliers! "Artificial measures!". Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but aren't the three LMP1 teams all running to slightly different standards? Some get more weight, some more go juice, and others more air, right? All in a totally artificial attempt to keep them close. *That's* what I call artificial! I'm not a huge fan of DRS either, but it is one example of them trying to do something that the 'fans' wanted - the perennial 'there's no overtaking, it's boring, bwah, bwah'.... So they gave us DRS in an attempt to give us what we (supposedly) wanted. And, to be fair, my biggest fear that they'd be constantly going back & forth with it hasn't happened. But it has allowed a quicker car to not just close up as before, but also get by, something that was almost impossible for a few years prior to it. Is it perfect? No. But it's way better than adding ballast or restricting breathing IMO. That's absolutely what I do!.... I'm not a fan off them all, but much of the interest to me is who's improving, who's batting above their weight, who's going backwards, etc. And then the intra team battles - which jockey is ahead in each team. It's been said many times, the only true measure we have is between teammates. Probably shouldn't go here, but what the hell! Outside of Le Mans, I don't think anyone follows it..... As for other forms of racing 'similar to F1', please enlighten me? There's none that I'm aware of! Cheers, Ian
No one does deserve to win. Championships have to be earned. That does not mean that fans shouldn't expect "their" teams to make the best effort possible. Ferrari has the resources, save leadership, to be a front line team. Their decline started when Brawn, Todt, et al were eased out replaced by people without the authority or talent to run the team as they had.
While I concede that Ferrari are not useless at F1 they are not the best team IMO. I have always liked them because they are a true manufacturer and are in it for the long haul, ie. they don't just race for a few years and retire if it gets too difficult. Lets go back through the history of F1 and rate their cars. We can't go before F1 started because Ferrari Spa started only just before the premier form of motorsport received the Formula 1 name. Anyway before 1950 their top cars were overly complex supercharged v12s that didn't achieve much. The Thinwall special did alright but we are not talking about Alfa Romeo P3 winningness ability. So: Pre 1950 - Alfa Romeo had the better car compared to Ferrari, if they competed 1950 and 51 - 1.5L supercharged or 4.5L - Ferrari improved to be the second best car 1952 and 53 - Due to lack of competitors they fell back on the F2 rules of 2L and Ferrari ran away with 2 championships with basically no opposition 1954 to 1960 - 2.5L - Maserati, Lancia, Mercedes and Vanwall produced the good cars. Yes Fangio won for Ferrari in 1956 but there is no way we can conclude that the 56 Ferrari was a good car, just good enough in the best drivers hands. 1958 was won by Mike Hawthorn in a Ferrari but that was because the Vanwall drivers were taking wins off each other. 1961 to 1965 - 1.5L - Ferrari produced a good car in 1961 and caught the other teams napping as they didn't have engines ready for the formula. The British cars dominated the rest of this formula but Ferrari did step up for 1964 but only with 2 wins and not long afterwards Surtees told Enzo where to go and left because he had had enough. To be continued later Pete
I have one question...Is Luca's involvement good or bad for the team? And, why do lots of people here blame him for the Scuderia's downfall?
Because they can . They also need to remember he is responsible for the period where Todt, Brawn, Bryne and Schumacher bored the motorsport world to sleep with relentless win after win. Pete
my question is why nobody can challenge mercedes? ferrari sucks so does mclaren, RB and the rest but sometimes i just wana sit down watch some good racing not sit down knowing mercedes gonna win every damn race
Back in 2002 I wanted to sit down and watch some good racing, not to sit down knowing Ferrari was going to win every damn race ... I'm sure the MercedesChat.com site is loving this season Pete
You need to have supported the team for near on 45 years like me and then you'll see we are no where near the worst we've been FINALLY, someone has named and shamed the tea lady !! I KNEW it was her fault ..... the simplest answer is always the right one And bite your tongue !! The Scuderia should ALWAYS be at the front
if ferrari winning nobody would complain about the noise nobody would complain anything and F1 is not dead isn't it wonderful
Actually I remember some where saying that F1 already was dead when Ferrari was winning everything. I guess some people always find something to complain about. But to be honest, there are lots of non-Ferrari fans out there that are complaining about current F1 and the TV ratings are dropping everywhere, it´s not just that our guys are not winning.
