Any idea how long does it take to order and get a set of the exhaust for the 355?
Please let me know how it works. These guys have all the good shrink tube and wire https://www.prowireusa.com/ partial into it. I think 9000 rpm will yield some excellent results ; Image Unavailable, Please Login
About a year. ;-) As a side note, I am just amazed how, with all of its dynos and engineering resources, etc., Ferrari has left that much on the table. And there is probably a bit more to be wrung out of the engine, before having to crack it open. Kudos to Oz for being able to figure out and unleash all that untapped potential.
You guys also noted the guillotine style bypass? There is huge attention to detail and thoughtful engineering right down to the tips and the tips contour to the bumper. Form and function of the highest caliber and Alex is the only one who has it. Goth needs to come up with "gothlocks" to secure gothzilla to the car.
Do you have a thread running on your progress, I would love to know what you are doing with the 5.2 ECU.
I am really looking forward to hear that. You hit the nail on the head with the inspection. They rev the engine to 2,800rpm in neutral with a microphone 50cm from the exhaust tips. The tubi doesn't pass. It is already a borderline fail at idle. If it came to it, I could take the car with the goth exhaust and bypass deactivated to the inspection So all we need to know know is how much $$$ ??
If you have 2+ minutes to spare ....... grab a comfy chair ..... in an undisturbed environment ..... go full screen, turn up your speakers ........ and click play ...... Project 5.2: Twin Valve ..... https://vimeo.com/99591211
Very well done!! But if you guys think that sounds great it is an order of magnitude better in real life. If purrs so nice and mellow under 3000rpm, you can stand behind the car and hold a conversation, but you can hear the F1 sound a whole street away when the loud pedal is down. No other 355 sounds this good period. Get in line boys the line is going to be long.
Thanks, Oz, for putting this great video together! I can't get enough of it! But I feel that the sound track does not do justice to the sound impact of the exhaust, I think the sound card of the poor point and shoot camera Oz used for the individual scenes was clipping. I took a video and record of the exhaust soundtrack while on the dyno, using my camera with a separate boom mike, and it still overloaded... it is THAT loud. But that is what I ordered, a full Jeckyll and Hyde personality, so at idle and cruising I won't be waking up the neighborhood, and me and my wifey can still have meaningful conversation inside the car, while when I am feeling Formula One and (pretend I am) approaching the tunnel at Monaco I can floor it and scream in chorus with the Gothspeed F1 symphony! Che bella macchina! Did I say you can actually hear the F1 symphony INSIDE the car? It is a first of any exhaust I have ever heard, and caught both me and OZ by surprise when it happened. Oh yes, and the HP and torque gains are a bonus. ;-)
Sounds great and looks great in person. Still waiting on the Goth replacement bypass valve so I can get rid of my rattling OME POS.
Something I just noticed. The gear ratio. Is that correct????? 4th gear in a 355 has a ratio of 5.521? Or did you do the pulls in 3rd? 4th in my 348 is 4.26, while 3rd gear has a ratio of 5.676. That's why I ask.
I'm pretty sure it was done in 4th gear. Makes sense maybe because we have a 6-speed, and your car has a 5-speed, so the higher gears are taller? We lifted those ratios from the owners manual.
I found some ratios for a '98 F1 UK model. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/142834233-post60.html Total Transmission Ratio (engine/wheel) 1st - 12.88 2nd - 9.063 3rd - 6.756 4th - 5.33 5th - 4.344 6th - 3.616 Gear Ratios 1st - 3.066:1 2nd - 2.157:1 3rd - 1.608:1 4th - 1.269:1 5th - 1.034:1 6th - 0.861:1 So it seems that you should actually be doing your pulls in 5th because that is closest to a 1:1 ratio. But, I wonder what your ratios are, because the ratios I found are different than what you have for 4th.
Ernie, on that same thread I posted my ratios right above his (LOL) on page 3 I think. But here is the link again: http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/05/abusu6ej.jpg And it does show the correct total transmission ratio (engine/wheel) in 4th gear at 5.521.
Right on. It looks as though all the 355 guys should be doing their pulls in 5th gear because that is the one closest to a 1:1 ratio. And MAN do you have some short 1st-4th ratios. No wonder the 355 has better acceleration times than the 348. This is getting a bit off topic so I'll quit there. Alex, your exhaust is the perfect mix in my opinion. When we were driving down the freeway it was nice and quiet. Even when we drove down some of the side streets near Church's it wasn't loud. Nothing to let anyone know the MADNESS lurking inside when you stomp on the peddle getting the bypass to open.
