From the picture it looks like the driver was getting on 95 East in Stamford. Always lots of traffic in that area, but at that hour most rush hour traffic would be heading west into NYC.

Even though among race cars, the ones that were wrecked badly in their history tend to be valued less than their mostly intact counterparts. Cars that were destroyed/burned up and subsequently rebuilt are often only worth a small fraction of the value of other examples. Still, almost every race car that's gone through a full season has had worse damage than this.

From the story it sounds like he lost it during acceeration. Doesn't the Enzo have traction control?

As a young man I once brought a 1-year-old car in for regular service at a Porsche-Audi dealership. Got the car back with mud splattered all over the rockers, a hole in the muffler and both front shocks leaking fluid.

Guys, this is a reminder to us all that you can't drive hard with cold tires. I know the exit where the crash happened, exit 7 northbound, it's very close to the location of their current shop and I bet they only went for a quick drive. The exit is a clean, smooth, long exit, perfect for "gunning it". Unless the techs were driving the car gradually harder for at least 20-25 minutes there is no way they would have manged to get the tires up to temperature. Summer tires that are in the operating temperature range feel HOT AND STICKY to the touch, not even warm and smooth is good enough. Now that I have a car with tire temperature sensors, it's really amazing how long it takes for the tires to get up to temperature and if it's mild and the road is damp they never get into the temperature range.

"State police tell the Stamford Advocate the car was being driven by a technician for Miller Motorcars, a Greenwich-based luxury car dealership, when it crashed on an interstate entrance ramp on Monday morning."

    Hmm.

Absolutely inexcusable for a Miller tech to be pushing a clients $1M+ car that hard that they lose control.

Yup, there is no test drive that requires military power.

Yes, but not stability control. It's not going to save you from oversteer/understeer. Even the traction control lets you spin the wheels a bit. It's a "sporty" traction control.

So an experienced Ferrari tech crashed it? Damn, I remember when people gave Eddie Griffin all hell for crashing an Enzo during a movie shoot.!

I got quite a problem with this article:

"Ferrari Enzo owned by a Cuban-born multimillionaire lost control of the $600,000-plus car"

So, 2 things must have happened when writing this article:

1.The car market has crashed before the Enzo did or maybe at the same time.

    2. The car value was estimated after the crash.

Are you sure? If a dealer wants to chime in and correct me if I am wrong, but what if the repair order had a line that says " Customer states there is a hesitation while accelerating hard ". If this was the case, the technician would need to duplicate the concern in order to properly diagnose it. Maybe it works different in the world of Ferrari repairs, but every dealer I have worked for, and serviced at has always attempted to duplicate any customer concern.

I'm not saying the crash was acceptable, I am just saying you shouldn't jump to conclusions that the technician was joy riding. I'm sure he was only vaguely familiar with the Enzo anyways, maybe servicing a handful of them in his lifetime.

That might explain the accident. If you are accustom to 430s 458s and F12s you don't have to modulate your input. The car does it for you. Driver's aides are like training wheels. You think you can ride but once they are removed you fall over.

I agree with Tim. I don't think both Techs were joyriding. Good chance there was something wrong with the car.....which is why it was there in the first place.
    Possibly something broke in suspension.
Possibly the Maserati tech was there helping with the laptop while plugged in.

I've been in the automotive business for 30yrs. For the experienced Tech, driving the Enzo is no big deal. Especially when you work on these cars day in and day out.

You have to wonder if this Enzo was being driven on 10+ year old factory tires. I've seen plenty of cars change hands that still have their original set, bad idea folks.

    so heres a question.....

since the F-car dealer smashed it.. Im guessing they may have an in-house body shop? or even a contracted body shop...

will the crash be on its CARFAX or buried?

im guessing someone will eventually get he VIN # and post it.. and once on the internet point is mute...

    Or is it?

My assumption is that with cars like these, a carfax is probably the least reliable source. Carbon probably already has the VIN and with how widely this story has been disseminated, the next owner will know exactly what happened and will price is appropriately.

It's going on the dealers insurance. They have no vested interest in covering anything up.

It's just a case number to them.

I hope the claim history is good. They are about to find out what the insurance company feels about the reality of covering a Ferrari related business now that they understand what their exposure really is..
