For real, I did the rear of my car and removed the side skirts for around $5K. The front of mine was already done by Evans before I bought it, but I suspect another $3K- $5K should cover that.

 

Agreed that the look of the carb'd motor is more "classic", but my QV FI with quick silver headers and mufflers sounds better than my friends QV DD with the factory exaust. Never raced him (as our cars are states away) but his DD doesnt feel any faster than my FI car

 

Slower? Doubt that makes a difference in this market. FI vs DD vs SD, skirts & wings, same old arguments. There's a buyer for all varieties. I like being able to park my slower fuelie in the family room without smelling up the whole house

I think you’re a decimal off. $5K-$10K or so to remove/replace the DOT bumpers and get rid of that 25th shift knob and it would be good to go

If you take a look at the bumpers and skits on this particular car you will see it is not an easy remove/replace job with the bumpers and skirts. It's certainly no laughing matter and anyone that thinks its easy will end up in tears. The job is difficult. The cars with these bumpers were cut into and hacked up to install these bumpers. First, finding the parts necessary to replace the front and rear will be more than 5-7k. To install the rear numbers on the US cars, they cut 9 inch round holes in the rear quarters. These aluminum corners need to be welded, and the rear painted. To do it properly the large brackets internally need to be removed and the internal side panels need to be reworked. The front is less but not much so and requires you to source the entire from bumper, splitter, grills and lights. My guesstimate was also to remove the side skirts which many find undesireable. Most side skits are welded on this year were very strongly to the side with large welded brackets all down the side of the car. To remove this is a mess and requires a lot of work. Now try to blend that 25 year old pearl metallic paint on the entire rear and sides of the car. It is nearly impossible, so if you do it properly and fitting of a 300-400k car, you are looking at a total repaint. Now when you are doing this much work to a car that will be worth 300-400k, it's not worth it to cut corners, and you are going to necessary refresh the black surrounds and details. Painting a countach is not easy as the glass and trim does not easily come out. If you are having a professional do this work you better be prepared for a big bill.

 

Recalling this is a US Spec car:
- Front: remove the front toaster bumper and replace with a 25th
- Rear: remove the 4 toasters. Cover the two holes.

Removing skirts, adding a wing, +++ is additional work that would be buyer dependent. Some like it some don’t. If I was the seller I’d do the above before listing it.

If someone wants a European spec (look) car then better they search for an EU car. It’s quite possible that those who want an EU spec'ed car don’t want the FI anyway.

My point is that you don't have to spend anywhere close to $100K to make this car desirable.

I agree. From a value standpoint it makes non sense to spend big money to try and make this car something it's not. If these cars continue to climb in value,,,, CONDITION and ORIGINALITY is what will set cars apart from each other. As ugly as those bumpers are, that's the way they left the factory. For under $5k you could replace or strip the paint off the 2 rear bumpers, repaint the side mirrors, new shift knob, correct radio and get the front bumper back to it's original color of black and you would have a very original looking Countach. I can't speak of the paint, body, interior or mechanical on this car but if it's in overall good condition, this could in fact be a great deal. Only time will tell, but if your looking to make money with your car, keep it well maintained and as original as you can.

 

I know it might sound insane but I would consider not doing anything to that car. Though ugly, why ruin a perfect good factory painted car? And spend a ****load of money.
The work involved will require aluminum work that is basically a patch job under non factory paint.
Such a tough call.

That would be my choice, or plan on repainting the whole car. As mentioned earlier, this particular color is going to be very hard to get a match.

My first car (a clean 88) had the bumper cut down. #12242.

The two outside black boxes on the back bumper had been removed and the hole was covered up.

It did not look all that bad.




With a US car, I would leave it as is - aside from replacing the front bumper with a euro 89 style front bumper. Of course, with the pre-Anniversario cars, I would also dump at least two of the four black bumper boxes.

 

Add the Value and 25th Anniversary threads to that figure!

No big deal to do the front & rear bumper conversion and remove the skirts. Ask me how I know My car before & after. 10K will cover it (skirts removal included)
