Having seen some of the posts showing Ferrari crashes, I am amazed at how seemingly easy it is for the rear end of these cars to break loose. I know that these are for the most part driver errors, but I would like to get some professional instruction to be able to recognize when the car is reaching its limit and how to handle it when it does, before losing control.

In my research I came upon a school named "Hooked on Driving" which holds classes at Autobahn Club in Joliet. Is anyone familiar with them or does anyone recommend an alternative?

I know that Autobahn holds performance driving classes but their cost seems comparatively high at $1400 for a 1 day program and you don't get to drive your own car, which is of particular importance to me.

Before I bought my Ferrari I was invited by some friends to join the Audi club and to attend their HPDE events. Those events were exceptionally well organized, and the instruction was excellent. I went a few times with that club after I bought my F430 and was impressed at how well the instructor was able to help me learn the car.

I also went to Gingerman with the FCA and found that to be a good experience, although a bit looser on the rules as there were far fewer attendees (but still a really great experience, and a good turnout).

Audi will be at Mid Ohio on the 4th of July weekend, and later in the season they go to Road America. I have attended both events in the past and highly recommend them. No need to have an Audi, I've never owned one.

Not sure if the HPDE events (from anyone) are exactly what you're looking for, but I have found that they helped me with car control during every-day spirited driving, as well as giving me fantastic track experiences.

Here's a link to the Road America event:

Thanks for the info, Mike. Sounds like a good deal...unfortunately, they don't allow convertibles.

I met the Hooked on Driving team at Gingerman a few weeks ago at the FCA track weekend. The owner was a friendly guy who said he would help you focus on whatever you like based on your current experience. He told me that you can use your own car with an instructor at any of their events.

I appreciate that input, Phil. Looks like I may sign up for this on July 13. Anyone else interested in going?
