Even by their own stated goals it makes no sense.

Why even bother having FP3 then? So the teams can see how much the track has changed from Friday and get a better idea of how screwed they are for qualifying and the race?

    Wow. Just...wow

    +1

Prior to posting, I visited the usual suspect sites to see if anyone had any justification for it. Not a damn thing as far as I can see. They've done it, but why?

Even with all their cost cutting nonsense, I fail to see how this will cut dollar one from anyone's budget. FP3 used to be where they could mess with some stuff ahead of qualy, and put it back if it didn't work.

I'm starting to wonder if Bernie is spending too much time in Munich?.... Surely he'd have talked some sense into them!

    I really don't get it. :(

    Cheers,
    Ian

Maybe that's it!.... They don't want to run in FP3 at all! :(

I do recall there were some discussions, rapidly dropped, about going from 3 to 2 FP sessions a while back.....

    Indeed.

I still don't get why Rob Walkers (IIRC) "Formula One Promoters Association" never got any traction. We know why FOTA continues to fail, but surely the track owners/promoters must have a lot of common ground, and if they got their act together these clowns would have to listen.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

I still cant understand what was wrong with the 40 odd year tradtion of Friday Am practice - Friday pm qualifiying, sat am practice- sat pm qualifying.... I really dont know why they have todays whole system.

the knock out qualifying works and makes sense but otherwise i dont get it.

At the expense of all, though I'm sure this will help some team in some way.

Buxton put forward the scenario of a driver leading a race with a marginal clutch that fails on the restart. That scenario benefits everyone behind him.

I guess. It sounds lame. They keep taking chunks out of what was a good sport. Dismantle away boys.

It they want to cut costs; mandate a single front wing design. The teams spend thousands of hours on these gigantic surfboards....triple elements etc.
These rule changes are becoming absolutely ludicrous

You're in parc ferme as of the start of Q1.

From then on, there's very little you can mess with outside of front wing angle, tire pressures and replacing essential fluids etc - ie, you can bleed the brakes and (I think?) replace the pads.

    Cheers,
    Ian

I;m sorry Ian, but appreciate if you can explain how this new rule are going to make any difference?

Simply put, does it mean limited time to work on the cars?

It means they can't change anything on the setup from the end of FP2 onwards. Essentially, this renders FP3 useless. Right now, they can adjust the cars until the start of qualifying.
