Ferrari 156 F-1 'Sharknose'

Just finished this illustration of the iconic Ferrari 156 F-1 affectionately dubbed as the 'Sharknose' due to it's characteristic air intakes 'nostrils'....introduced in 1961. Ferrari started the season with a Dino engine and then replaced it by a new engine designed by Carlo Chiti.
This new engine produced ten more horsepower with a displacement of 1,476.60 cc claimed 190 hp at 9;500 rpm.
Phil Hill won the 1961 World Championship and Ferrari secured the International Cup for F-1 manufacturers, both victories achieved with the 156.

There was another red replica at goodwood this weekend. Although a little naughty that the information sign did not state it was a replica, so non the wiser people thought it was real.

 

It's not the first time a Sharknose is seen at Goodwood.

A few years back, Chris Rea's replica was also seen on the hill.
I can't remember who drove it.
That replica was made for the film "La Passiona" about Ferrari, using a V6 Dino engine.

There are no original Sharknose left, but some parts were laying in Maranello up to the 80s apparently, and people with connection were able to get hold of them.

 

Yep - i think the red one ( Rea's) is not a fully accurate 156 - but the yellow one is about 80% old stock and has original engine and gearbox... done by an english company who makes high quality Replicas off original designs from Ferrari. they did the Auto Unions for Audi as well.

The 156 Ferrari is one of the reasons I am a fan today.....the Corgi model that I had of it might have been part of that too......

 

I have read the history of this 156 F1 in the Octane magazine last year i think. Amazing construction with a lot of interesting things!

 

At the 1995 Goodwood hillclimb, I saw red replica shark nose driven by ... Phil Hill!

There was a twin test in one of the classic cars magazines last year of 2 replicas one with the 120 degree V6 the other the 60 degree if i can remember correctly.
