Hi Smg, yes you know last night I measured the inlet verses the exhaust followers with my vernier and the exhaust are definately smaller. As you rightly say the vernier is no good for this kind of job so I have just been out and bought a large micrometer.
I wasn't going to post anything here about my thoughts just yet on what I think I might find until I knew for sure. I figured people may be tiring of my theories on this subject and the last thing they want is to hear the lastest. But unfortunately as You will know it's a process, one follows a theory until it leads somewhere or goes nowhere and then you move on. Hopefully at the end of this we alll will know something new, thats a big incentive for me to find the definitive cause.
Think I'm getting really warm now...
    All the best, Bell

This is a superb document, Bell. I've just watched from #1; you've a great talent for communicating.

It's a crying shame we have Mondis separated on this forum. I'm now going to watch more on your YouTube channel: gotta be more interesting than the footie or Wimbledon :)

Cheers Paul, Bart for your kind words, it is really frustrating that a link in the Mondial section to this thread was deleated by a moderator not constructive in my opinion.

Anyway today the 2 new followers arrived and despite being told by the Bugatti, Ferrari experts etc in my area, that my followers are not the issue here I do feel that they are a big issue.
The more I look at the pictures of follower no.4 the more I feel that this is a honing issue revealed by a change of oil with a lower viscosity.
I refer back to the fact that a polished mirror surface holds no oil and I really do feel this is the problem.
Now I may be forced to eat my words here but I am feeling confident and more so now because the new followers have a honing texture like the himalayas, this says it all I think.
Anyway here are some pictures and video that hopefully back up my theory.
Also just look at No.4 follower now! And it's still in spec ie it measures the same size as the new one as you can see in the video.
    All the best, Bell Bloke.

That's just plain silly. Do we have any influence over these rules? Surely a mod on here should understand the Ferrari model / engine overlap matrix and act accordingly. Otherwise maybe they shouldn't be a mod...

    Hey Bell,
I just want to say again that your videos are fantastic and offer a great insight into the finer points on these cars. Thanks again for taking the time to produce these.
    Good luck with your search.

Yes I know..... it's now the case that the Moderator deleated the link in the Mondial section to this thread. So unless you are a regular here and know the formum the new Mondial guys will be completely unaware of this thread even though it's actually about something that concerns them. Also I know from experience here that my threads can be deleated...bang! just like that.. What can you do. Complain and you get banned.

Anyway here's a stupid thing I did today!!

Been there, done that! Except with mine the washer didn't make it to the sump & I was able to get it out with a magnet on a piece of wire. Possibly one of the worst hours of my life I think & the relief when I also heard the "click" is still remembered to this day!

Ever since, whenever I have had the cam cover off, the first thing I do is clean the head with spirit and then stick strips of 2" wide masking tape right down the middle of it to cover all the holes.

Well Guys, the engine is back together all followers are honed with 2 new followers on number 4 cylindar.
I was going to run it but it was late and I would like to do some final checks.
I'm off to classic LeMans for 4 days so won't run the engine until Monday.
Thought I'd wait also because if the noise is still there it will spoil my weekend ha ha.
Anyway, boy am I getting good at doing cam belts of these cars now!
If the car runs perfect and the noise has gone, then I will run it for 1000miles and pull the followers again to see how they fair against the 2 new ones. I see this now as a data gathering excercise and a bit of fun if all goes well. It'll be useful to know if rehoned followers work well.
Also I wonder if belt failiures in the past have been due to follower problems...
Anyway, this is jumping the gun, can't go down that avenue until this latest case is proved one way or the other.
Many thanks for your kind comments and continued interest, Bell Bloke ;-)

with my sausage fingers, I'm also a bit clumsy. When I dare to pick up a washer/bolt/whatever standing over something where it could fall in; it just falls in. So, for washers and small bolts/nuts I Always pick em up with a magnet: never fails.

the 355/348 forum is doing the same splitting exercise.... I hope they stay together; a lot of info gets lost...
Still not sure why the lesser 3*8 cars were seperated from the superior Mondials... ;)

Have a nice weekend @ Le Mans!

haha I guess you had that coming! :)

but it is true in some sense.. Mondials do have more (luxury) options on the car and that makes it immidiately superior in things that break ;)

I say the sound will be gone!
Have fun! I had planned to go as well, but the flue cought me in its grip and made me not to go.. Hope it will be good weather actually! There will be an aweful lot of nice wheels! If it is not too much to ask? Share some pics later on? :)

No word from Bell = He has been busy out enjoying long drives in his (now fixed, and running perfectly) Ferrari :)
