One project that I'm doing is making up a couple of screens to place on the ends of the side scoops. I never cared of them being open without some screen to protect anything from getting sucked in there.
I got some mocked up and trial fit. They look good.

My question is has anyone installed something like this? How did you get the screens to stay on? The only thing I can think of is a clamp which may work or it might slide off or maybe glue it. And that's a big maybe if it will hold.

    Any thoughts?

The German cars came with them. The were located right at the entrance of the scoop and as I recall there were just screwed on.

    My Euro came with them.

I didn't like them at all so I took them off.

My german euro spec came with them. Though yours are a lot cleaner looking than the factory ones.

Chris, they look perfect, like they came with the car. Is that standard wire mesh?

Originals were chicken wire and pop riveted into the plactic scoop IIRC.

Yours look like mine. I chose gold wire as my car is metalic brown.

Form them well and the plastic scoop will hold them in place just fine on the metal part of the intakes.

IIRC, they were a requirement of the German market and maybe the Swiss.

    No other market required them.

Did a major on a Euro 308 QV last summer with the bird screens. Looked like a pain to clean. They were riveted. I like yours much better Chris. They don't interfere with the lines

    Thanks guys.

The screen is one of those that go to your rain gutter to keep the leaves out. I had some extra and just cut the amount I needed.

Rivets sounds like another option. Thank you. I need to see what that will look like if I can get the gun in there.

I'm going to try a clamp first and see how that works.

I stopped at a friend house some years back and there were some of their kids playing in the yard. When I came out I saw them running from the car and I looked around and didn't see anything wrong. I drove home and while pulling in the garage I stopped a little quickly and some stones fell out of the carb side scoop. Besides being pissed I had to go in and remove the rubber boot and pull the top of the air cleaner off. I wish I had the screens.

Pointless to me. We're not talking jet engines here. And jet engines don't have a grill grate.

Didn't they test it out by throwing live birds into the scoops with the car running on the dyno near red line?
