this is exactly what i am asking ! i had a 996 and we were both doing 100 km and when we launched that 348 was not going anywhere at a point the 348 was pulling away. it was screaming that all i kept saying to my wife was listen to that thing...crazy crazy noise.

my question was the following and coming from a 996 turbo i know what a launch is, when i read all this crap about the 348 it makes it seem like a slow car but from my experience it is not !!

i bought a 348 without ever stepping into it, we are snowed in here so i will have to wait till april. i did not buy this car for 0-60 , but i was just wondering if kept in the high rpm range will this car show off it's balls ? From the last comment above i know it will :)

    thanks again for the comments.

Was it the nicest sounding "Noooooooooo!" ever made on a racetrack when your superior driver skills vanquished Mr. Bocelli? :D

    All the best,

My 2001 996TT was really wicked fast and flatly dangerous from 60-100. The 348 is not, but it is a heck of alot more fun! :) At lower speeds, 2nd is a really fun gear with the SS ratios. On the freeway, 3rd is the fun ratio. I love to do the 5th to 3rd downshifts for quick passes. That was also cool in the the 996TT 6th to 4th.

2nd to 3rd and back to 2nd, the most frequent shifts on most race tracks....the beauty of the dogleg box

the turbo was predictable, never giving up but it was boring after awhile. it made no exotic noise, sound like **** at idle and the interior really wasnt pretty especially if you had supple leather..made the car look so old.

i have a 348 capristo no cat ready to gi in April. i could only imagine the sreams that thing will make :)

there are many that would choose the 348 over the 996tt

+1 - I always the the 348 sounded perfect...better than any other V8 street car Ferrari produced.

The car in the video looks sweet with the 355 rims...really makes the car look so much better and modern. Black is a nice color too.

Yours doesn't count, think he means a 'normal' one :)

Anyway, couldn't remember the answer so in the interest of accuracy went for a blast. Answer - plenty fast enough :) . Car's been away for 3 months or so, almost forgot how good she sounds.

Got my 348 spider over 150 MPH tonight, legal of course, with the top down and it was still pulling hard. Of course I have good tires and I just checked the wheel lug bolts. I think that that was good enough for me. FYI I also own a 97 mustang cobra; which is bullet proof. Guess what car I would rather drive? Yeah, this isn't a mustang chat site.

Over 10 years ago I routinely kept up with and passed 355's and 360's on track in my 348 racecar which had stock motor, homemade delrin bushings, DeltaVee revalved shocks and coils, full cage, wing splitter, 2750lbs wet on slicks and I was a worse driver then compared to now which still ain't great.

I don't care about 1/4 mile s&@t but I did do 165 mph according to my speedo and I think it's on because I got pulled over and the cop told me he clocked me at 120 and that's what I was doing. And all I got was a no seat belt ticket. Be nice to the police. One in a while you get a break ;-))

I've been told by more than one person that has driven 348 and 355 that the 348 feels more torquey and is not a whole lot slower as you rev it up (or at least doesn't feel that way).

With both of these cars, it's all about the handling and keeping the car in usable power band.

I'm not sure I'd go that far. I love my 348 but the 355 is a faster car (as long as you keep both 'on song' of course.)

The thing is when I test drove both I didn't really push either but the 348 'feels' just as fast as the 355. Where the 348 is 'chattering away' to you about the road surface and what is going on with the car, the 355 feels more refined and planted. You could either say it's more capable or you could say it's less engaging - depends on your viewpoint and neither is right or wrong.

The result is drive the same stretch of road in a 348 and a 355 going at exactly the same speeds and I pretty much guarantee it'll feel faster in the 348. Likewise you may get into a 355 and think "This is no faster than my 348." It will be, it just doesn't feel it.
