At the risk of being a miserable s*d - I gave up buying this sort of thing years ago.
They wheel out the same old facts & figures and then go on and say lots of nice things about whatever cars are featured (because understandably they don't want to upset their readership).

I'll stop now and get back to my lemon sucking activities

 

Andy, this one is different, they mention bargain prices on 308's are over and 328's the most economical / value entry into full - fat Ferrari ownership...or something like that...LOL

anyway...

 

I will go get it this weekend. I hope the 308 shows as the car to have for the value, the looks and the drive.

maybe not the quickest of the bunch but a lovely and well balanced car that is fast and rewarding to drive down your favorite back road!!!

and w/ euro front spoiler...the looks are to die for still!!

 

Will the 308 narrative start with the usual 'first shown at the 1975 Paris Salon' bit - then some nonsense about first cars being glass but repair costs being too high so production switched to steel, then the introduction in 1981 of Fuel Injection to address US regulations (insert 'strangling the engine' somewhere here) then the final QV model 'restoring' the bhp back to acceptable levels.

I think that will cover it, stick a few library photos in my text and job done...

There was a "period" comparison between the Lotus Esprit Turbo and the 328 in a french magazine these days, that I happened to find on Monday when taking the train...I decided that it was better to spare the few euros that the magazine costed.
One thing is for sure, the number of articles published on these cars is indeed on the rise; just like the "hen and egg" question (which one came first?) it is difficult to know if it is because the prices of our cars seem on the rise, or the other way around, but the 3x8 are receiving some attention...

"The seating position is typically Italian, with deeply offset pedals and a straight arm required. Once you slide into position, the car shrinks around you to fit like a glove. It is a purposeful interior, with little of the extra luxury usually associated with sports cars these days. Unfortunately, climate control is somewhat lacking.

Driving off, we skip second -- Ferrari transmissions are known for being cranky when cold, but after they warm up the gated transitions are like no other on the planet.

Nope it starts off with the Enzo factor towards the company and then lots of history before they get to the actual cars and heritage, the 308GT4, the Dino and then about V12's, formula 2 and then towards 1975, nothing negative said about the fibre-glass, infact the other way around a little...they touch tradition and modernity...elegance...etc....

the article compares hugely between the respective cars with owners inputs and experience, all in its own way...

remember I quoted " Winning Formula ! '" ??

the mag is in 268 pages with lots more, don't know if your familiar with this mag,, it covers plenty on auctions, reference prices, events, collectors and ownerships - lots of cars other than Ferrari...

I'm not trying to convince anyone to go out and buy it, I was happy Jeremy shared with us and I like it for myself...

 

No offence meant, just a gentle bit of ribbing on a sunny Friday afternoon. I know the magazine well and subscribed for many years.
I would buy any literature that vaguely referenced the 308 - a sure fire way of tripping over lazy journalism.

I used to enjoy C&SC for all the reasons you mentioned. These days if I buy a car magazine I tend to lean towards 'Motorsport' - Nigel Roebuck and Simon Taylor write some great articles.

 

Cool Andy, yes Simon Taylor again with "Full Throttle"' article and Mick Walsh "From the cockpit", some interesting stuff, will read over the weekend and take my baby out in the cool air !

I will go a buy a copy, but I'm sure it will say exactly this, framed by nice photos and in a dressier font.

 

The most interesting bit will be the comparison / conclusion at the end. It's a nice approach to compare the V8s across the decades. I'll pick up a copy tomorrow.

Does the 308gt4 get a mention and a picture? Or is it still over looked and snubbed at! Too much snobbery surround F cars.

 

As overlooked as the 360. Get over it.

 

Don't hard on C&SC. The 308GT4 has had many favorable mentions in C&SC in recent years even if it did not make this issue.

 

Mondi is missed, too. And it fits the years covered.

 

Nothing wrong with 360's. Not really over anything, just making an observation. Will get a copy of the mag as usual, one of the better ones out there. Octane is another reasonable read.
