My wife bought me a ticket to participate in a "runway shootout" event at a local airport. To my understanding, drivers at the event select others to run against in a half-mile race. I'm debating whether or not to participate in the event. On one hand, I don't want to abuse the car by going drag racing (!) and I don't care if my car is faster than someone else's. On the other hand, I think rolling starts are allowed and I'm curious to see how fast I can go in a half mile.

Anyone have any idea as to what the scud might get up to in a half mile? I've already been 150-155 in the car on the back "straight" at Road Atlanta, which is longer than a half mile, but not actually straight and has elevation changes (mostly uphill). If I can't go faster than that, I would likely skip the event, or attend just to watch others. Thanks!

EDIT: I just realized I posted this in the general forum when I had intended to post in the 360/430 forum. Mods: feel free to move this thread.

Being a bit of a drag racer, a 500hp car can do 120mph over 1/4 mile. (standing start) So you should easy get over 150 in half a mile. Definately go for the rolling start to save your clutch.

I did 155-157mph also at a past shifts3ctor airstrip event. 35mph rolling start. Not any more abusive than the typical spirited drive on the highway so long as your baby is well-serviced and maintained.

I just did this event in Chicago Land with wannaGoFast

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe-9vbcbrK8

A 458 was competing and ran 150MPH in stock trim. I would say that if you achieved 150 from a dead stop in the 1/2 mile you would be doing well.

Remember if you go from a rolling start you will have less opportunity for a higher top speed as you eat up a lot of runway rolling at 20MPH before they let you loose.

Yeah my Son & I built that years ago (he put together the video). We set it up for road racing but this 1/2 mile stuff works too :)

Just ran across this post Dave and I've done numerous 1/2 mile events. The event in Clayton is awesome and I know from last years event a F430 (stock from what I know) ran consistent 136mph w/rolling start. I'd guess the Scud would be knocking on high 140's from a stop.

Even if you don't run you should definitely come spectate. I like to run Saturday and hangout on Sunday to get the full experience. If you need help selling the tickets let me know as I'm sure I could find a few people ready to pay.

Hope to see you there in any capacity. I'm not to hard to find given the tag and copper color. ;)
