They still do (including Kimi). Pretty much all drivers walk it with their friends or team members and discuss the track in detail. Vet and Kimi walk it together with a small group at most races. Johnny Herbert and Damon Hill discussed it and came to the conclusion that they would've done exactly the same in the circumstances that where. The (small) bump was far and covered by grass and in a highly unusual area. No one went to check what was going on over there on their track walk, as they expect when they do run wide there in most circumstances they can get back on the track much earlier.
Man, you sure know exactly what Kimi knew and did....or are you speculating with rose colored glasses? Let's be honest here, the driver is solely responsible for maintaining control of his car and reentering the track in a safe manner. Kimi went off, Kimi reentered, Kimi lost control. Fault lies solely wi agh Kimi....unless someone else was driving his car. Mark
Nope, I just happen to know that each and every single driver does the track walk/cycle in almost all circumstances. Kimi and Vettel are good buddies, they happen to do it together. No big ****ing secret there . Yes in the very end, with added value of hindsight, Kimi should've entered the track differently. The point is, some of you are hanging him for something no other driver would've done differently. We all have the benefit of hindsight, easy for us to say he was a fool for crashing over a ****ing bump.
I was more pointing out the insinuation that you knew Kimi didn't walk by or inspect the area of the track in question and you know it's composition...and I want only joking around. Go back and reread my post, I didn't hang Kimi. I all I said was the accident was his fault, and he took out two drivers with him. Mark
It wasn't all Kimi's fault. Some (if not all) of it was the fault of Mrs. Beaker. There she was wearing a Raikkonen shirt, jinxing him completely at the time of his accident. After it was clear he was out, she decided to transfer her support to Massa, but then we realised he was out too. So later on as Hamilton started catching Rosberg, she decided to support Rosberg for fending him off, and this caused him a mechanical failure. So... which drivers do you hate most? Send their merchandising hats and shirts to me and I'll have my wife wear them - they'll be retiring for many and varied reasons before you know it! All the best, Andrew. PS: She also transferred her support to Alonso just before he lost hid place to Vettel.
So Red Bull decided to design their car around Ricciardo and blew off their 4 time world champion? Or are you only referring to Ferrari?
And all of you used to bash Felipe.... Classic!!!! Williams will finish ahead of the RED DUD SCUD at seasons end...l You can take that to the bank....
Comparing cars with drivers is like apples to oranges. The only comparison worth something is Fred to Kimi and Botox to your guy.
I've watched the crash so many times. I'm still trying to figure out why he went off track. At least that much. Did the suspension possibly break before he hit the bump and that caused it?
Mark Arnall, who was Kimi's physiotherapist (also was Hakkinen's too) told me that Kimi and Mika were religious about walking the tracks. Even tracks they knew well. They wanted to see if the kerbs had changed, if the run off areas were the same, if the surface had changed. He said that they often would do this in groups of 2 or 3 drivers and would stop every 10 feet or so and ask each other . . . "anything jump out at you as being significant?" Sometimes these walks took hours. It was not a quick glance.
that ditch needs to get ditched asap. very unsafe. and that barrier was bare armco, should have tires in front considering the speeds and angle of attack.
Sure, that's because Massa is making a hugely greater contribution to his team's results now... oh wait, that's Bottas that is scoring 75% of Williams' points. Looks like Ferrari or Williams, Massa is still being massively outscored by his teammate. Now THAT can be taken to the bank. How come nobody is bashing Alonso for screwing up his start position and costing the 5 second stop-go penalty? Isn't that a pretty rookie mistake that he should have got out of his system 12 years ago?
Any doubt that Fred is the (much) better driver? Forget today. The previous races have been significant. Best
Perfect example, Interlagos 2012. Kimi went off track, took an access road to get back on track. The gate was closed and Kimi had to turn around, but he knew it was an option and where the road went if needed.
