Arnie May I ask what the head height is in your garage? Also how does your garage door open to access the Porsche and the Audi . I am about to start construction to expand my 3 car to a 4 car and wish to add a lift to gain a 5 car in the end.
What stops you from getting one Mark? It would be a great addition to your collection and the GTO is a keeper. You would love the GTO. I was out yesterday with my friend who owns one too and we had so much fun. A true driver's car The modern F40 need I say more?
Setting aside the $500,000 for a second (!) I guess I'm a little worried about the single clutch F1, but everything I read says it's great. I'd like to drive one.
It's a 2002 575M with stick shift. Mileage around 60,000 from commuting into NYC. It had snow tires every winter. Commuting duties now passed to the F12.
My garage height is 124 inches. As for the garage door you need a side mount garage door lift which mounts on the side of the garage door. To convert my garage door from a normal lift to a side mound lift cost me $1100. The same garage door can be used. You just have to change the garage door tracks to go to the top of the garage roof before it bends. I also got daylight low temperature (works great in a cold garage) fluorescent lights mounted on the ceiling for bright light. They take up about 5 inches. If I was building a garage I would flush mount all the ceiling lights and no poles. Be sure to bolt the lift to the floor. Some installers say it is not necessary for a four post but I do not believe it. The front of the garage (not seen) has all my tool cabinets)
That‘s how it should be done. There aren‘t many 575 MTs, especially if we look at US-spec cars. Great taste, great collection and kudos for dailying the 575 on your work commute.
Love that last picture you posted. Thanks. Don't worry about the single clutch F1. I have 18,700 kms on mine (both track, open roads and city) and it runs flawless. The gearbox is one of the key items adding to the overall driving sensation of the GTO in my opinion. If I were you I would go drive one I think you will be impressed and the car would be a great addition to your stunning collection.
It's the most engrossing transmission of its kind IMHO. The DCTs are amazing, but they are so smooth that they detach you a bit - despite the faster shifts. The transmission was one of the main reasons I bought the Scuderia. Never really wanted a paddle shift car until I drove it. The 60ms shifts, and drive-train shock, are just awesome. Also very easy to drive around town once you get use to it. I've never had the privileged of driving a 599, but it must be amazing.
