To protect his power? And because he's too protective of his power?

Kimi won a world title actually. They will not get rid of LDM guys. He was handpicked by Gianni to work with Enzo, asked to come back to run the company, asked to step in as Chairman of the entire Fiat Group until the grandson was ready. They trust him more than anyone outside the family and he is not expected at this stage in life to personally drive the performance of the F1 team.....get real.

I also dispute the notion he kicked everyone out. He is the guy that hired and unknown Todt to run the team and stuck by them through several years before the turn around began. He just was going to hire Kimi, not fire Schumi. If Schumi got axed why did he stay around? Needed the money? Todt was fired? Pretty sure he was made CEO of the company. We should all be so lucky. If Brawn was canned, why did he want to come back(not sure he did but you said so)?

The most amazing part is that big ego's like all those guys stayed together for as long as they did without many changes. That is pretty unusual in sports. But remember the sucked big in 2005 and better in 06 but not good enough. I think they all needed a new direction or challenge.

No doubt the team is struggling and need to get it together. It is a tough technical sport that usual comes down to one team getting it right and everyone else a distant also ran. They will come back.

What power? He's the chairman, and the dream team answers to him. Just doesn't make sense.

You should read the feature Visla was alluding to in the last edition of "Motorsport Magazine"...
Todt was not unknown when he was hired, as he had masterminded the Peugeot Sport efforts in rally (1980s) and Endurance (1990s) and was disappointed when Peugeot decided not to build his own F1 car + engine combination; he was on the move then, but it was actually Bernie Ecclestone who suggested to Luca to hire him.
After 2007, Todt was not "fired", but pushed aside without any control over anything, so he decided to do what could be, and indeed was, expected of him: leave.

    +1.

Without doing a spoiler alert, Q1 must be one to forget forever and one that
LdM will remember, ha. What a terrible display! Marussia made them look the "amateur"
team. Yes, it was tricky but almost all the teams got it (Williams the other culprit),
but at the end of the day it was only Q1 where the usual suspects leave from quali.
so even if you don't get it perfectly right, at least you end up in the middle of the pack.

Which didn't seem to be too much of a handicap at Silverstone.

Well IMO that would be the half-full view of it (not for Raikonnen though); the half-empty
view is that if they had managed to get out of Q1, they probably would have ended
somewhere in the top ten. From there the race would have been much much better.

The race against Vettel was fascinating... That I liked!

Didn't hurt Lewis all that much.

Alonso lost more in gridding than he did in qualifying.

A few days ago Vettel said about Lauda that it´s normal that he always needs to express his opinion because he changes his opinion quite often. For example, Lauda now says that engine freeze is OK and that those who hasn´t made a good engine should STFU, but a year ago he was begging to change the tyres because they didn´t suit his car.

In the end, it´s just politics.

Now we know what Lauda's role at MB is.

The problem is the tech team and if the car is no good off the drawing board then it can't be developed into something good due to the rules. There is nothing wrong with the drivers or Luca, other than the fact that he kept stefano way too long. All great teams have runs, they end, and they rebuild. Ferrari is starting to rebuild. Be patient. They will come good again. Engine man Mamorini has allegedly already left, and we will see a vastly different engine in 2015, together with other changes.

I think Ferrari must calm down a bit and let allison do his job..he is quite capable...as was Aldo costa, too bad they listened to alonso and brought Fry, from the moment he arrived, Costa was doomed, Brawn didn't waist any time in geting him and now look at the mercedes chassis!! sack Fry (marmorini also sucked when compared to Gilles de simon and paolo martinelli). Allison is good, let him do his work, get a decent engine, stop favouring Alonso (or better yet sack him too and get Hulk), with this create an healthy environment in the team in things will naturaly happen

Agree with you re fry and tombazis, put Allison in charge. Costa is good but remember Mercedes has several top engineers there,, and they work as a team. Ferrari needs an engine first and foremost, and I think honda coming back next year will make things tougher for all the teams. Honda has no doubt been pouring over the mb engine and will benefit from that. Re the drivers, Alonso and Kimi can only drive what is given to them.....

Sort of funny he says this and at the very next race Alonso beats both his cars. The guy is the king of putting his foot in his mouth.

I have been loving his comments about the nanny state of F1 though as well as needing more sound. He is spot on with both points.

Modern F1 is about looting the venue cities for $$$$, racing comes secondary.

    Not just cities.

Some days I'd be happy if racing came as high as second.

I prefer a quiet thoughtful reorg than the usual knee jerk mass sackings we've seen before.

2015 is the goal. This season is toast as far as championships go.
