Hey all the little black plastic piece that covered the volume knob has gone missing. I called Ferrari Atlanta and they said from their understanding I would have to replace the entire control knob panel (almost $2k)any ideas on how I could remedy this?

Is it not a warranty claim?

The alternative is to buy a Cadillac or Hyndai . Replacement should be under $10.00 (lol). Serioiusly, we all ask for it but it has to be worth since so many of us keep doing it. Best

Why would buying a McLaren avoid the cost of expensive replacement parts?

I'm not getting into the question of what company builds better quality parts, but when replacing parts are McLarens costs much cheaper than Ferraris?

For example:Would McLarens rotors and brake pads for the ceramic brakes be much cheaper then Ferrari's replacement cost parts?

Sorry to hear about losing that knob. But, I must agree the cost for such a switch is a little over-the-top even for Ferrari

Time to buy a 3D printer and solid modeling software for a $1k and have some fun! It is just black plastic......

You could also search audio and electronics parts sources for something close...

I have no idea what brakes cost for either one... Sort of a joke. Have had 3 Ferraris and waiting for my new 458 Spider to get finished and shipped to me. Sold my 2012 Spider 3 months ago and couldn't stand to be without a car anymore and bought a 2013 McLaren 12C Spider last week and love it. Not sure what I am going to do when the 458 gets here. In any case, ferrari gouges for these kinds of things. McLaren probably does as well. They are both great cars...these things just go with the territory I guess.

It isn't the little knob that costs that much. In this particular case, you can't purchase the small knob alone. You need to replace the entire radio/navigation interaction component. They probably felt the likelihood that anyone would ever need to replace that little knob is so remote, that it just makes sense to have the whole piece as a replacement part. It's just an unfortunate twist of fate. Believe me, I feel your pain. I am so particular about using only factory parts, that I would replace the whole thing, as painful as it would be.

agreed, I don't even know where to look for a non factory replacement. its not even the knob, just a 3-5 cent piece of plastic that covers the screw. I suppose i could find a sticker to cover it for now and look for a replacement from a parts car.

Before spending (wasting) $2k I would look for knobs of other manufacturers or devices.
There is nothing special about this thing and with some patience you should GE able to find.

Get one from a wrecked 458? I have no idea how to find one, but they must be out there somewhere?

You need to post the picture of that thing without the plastic knob, so people can help you to figure out the best way to replace it. Don't let the dealer rape you by replacing the whole panel. Next time any plastic broken, they will ask you to replace it with a new car.

The dealer probably wants you to buy a used knob before they sell you a new one.

The best post of the thread by far.

Agree call local body shop and ask about totaled 458s for parts.

No offense. We don't mean to have fun at yours expense, but it really is so ridiculous. This is such a great line.
