I am looking for any leads on a 95 or 97 Defender 90. (I'd like to stay away from the 94s if possible, but I would consider very good examples). Convertibles only, no wagons.

I would prefer yellow, white or red.

Not rust (if there even is such a thing on these). :)

Seems you may know a thing or two about these. Please don't buy one without looking at it. Literally check every spot for rust, scary how bad some of these get.

Have you looked to source one from Africa. Very cheap from there.

For $120K buy a new one. Better off road capabilities with wifi, satellite radio and a drive train that won't split .

Lambo LM-002 would be a better acquisition in this category & price range.

I know of a exotic car collector who has one of these. What is the appeal? $120k seems just INSANE for this. Even $50k comes off as bonkers. Why are they so valuable?

The car at CNC doesn't represent the price range. Yes, these cars have gone up significantly in the last 2-3 years and sell for much more now than when they were new.

I plan on finding a nice, mid mile truck for around 50k or less.

Luke -- when you're ready to really go off road, talk to Valenzo or me about our Pinzgauers.

I was in the market for a Defender once too.... then I got serious ;)

Ha! Your truck is awesome. I doubt anything is more capable.

I've wanted a D90 since they came to the states in 94. I was 15 then, and I promised girlfriend at the time, (who's now my wife) that Id own one some day.

Just trying to make good on that promise. :)

My dad had one when I was a kid. He got a smokin deal on it new because nobody wanted them in the US. Think he paid $28k in 1995. Amazing car, we took it through the Rubicon Trail successfully.

I bought my D90 new in '95 and put over 200K miles on it over the 18 years that I owned it. Sold it last year. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask :)

Check the classifieds at Rovers North or defendersource.com. Their prices will be more realistic.

They've always had a demand in the US because of supply. I don't believe the dealers ever sold them new here. Now that LR stopped making them, I think you'll see the prices continue upward. $120k is the most I've ever seen asked for one, but it also has the lowest miles I've ever seen. Some collector will buy it.

I was absolutely enamored by these when they hit stateside, too. I would go to the Land Rover dealership and sit in them. Jeeps were the in thing at school in those days and that "V8" badge on the side made me want to roll up to school in the only "V8" Jeep. I dreamed about owning one.

I had to buy a truck recently to haul sportbikes and man stuff, and my memories of the Defender 90, and what it meant to me when I was younger made me consider it. I also considered the G55, as the G-Wagon was another one I wanted as a kid as well. The last vehicle I wanted to consider was the Raptor, as everything I read on it praised it. My budget was between 55-65k.

After driving all three, I found the Raptor to be 10x more rewarding and comfortable. It'll do everything the other two will, but is more civilized, has more interior space and is a joy to drive in suburbia or treachery.

I bought one and would make the decision over and over again. The 90 is great to look at, and the G55 has really stood the test of time, but the Raptor is too cutting edge to pass up. And '14 is the last year they will be made.

Just throwing that out there. ;)

^^^what he said, though theirs are very often on the extremely high end of the price spectrum.

I always had a 4x4 when I was a young man. I remember when these came out and were new for mid 20K at dealership. Then they stopped making them or bringing them in and the price doubled overnight and now...even more. If I was going to drop that kind of money for a utilitarian car now i would be very tempted to try one of these out first I think. I picked ou t a yellow one for you but I think a more subtle color would suit me.
