I just found out that my current insurance doesn't provide AGREED VALUE policy. So, I am shopping around. May I ask what company you use, and if you don't mind, your yearly premium (for comparison)? Grundy quoted me $1160/year. Classic Collectors $927. Are your numbers close (if you don't want to mention figures)?

Mine's roughly half that for an 04 360 spider with USAA. 5000 annual miles with clear driving record. Rates are really difficult to compare as there are so many variables. We have $1M coverage, but insure our other vehicles and home with USAA which obtains some pretty deep discounts. We also live way out in the boondocks which helps too.

    Cheers, Andy

Guys, the key to his question is "AGREED VALUE". Sure, 250/500 with 1M umbrella costs me less than my Lexus (much less than his quote) but I don't have agreed value. I report mileage so there is some variability but not much.

With limited information that I have, I would say those aren't bad quotes.

I have other cars insured with Grundy so I contacted them first when I purchased my 2002 360 last month. They quoted me approx. $950 for the year. Then when I gave them the ok and sent the pictures the underwriter called me 3 days later telling me that they wont cover the car because it is too new and a high performance vehicle. I called State Farm which is who I have all of my other vehicles and house with. They quoted me $458 every 6 months and insured it immediately.

Thanks for the input, guys. Classic collector (agreed value), 5k miles per year, is $927 annual premium; and for $1055, am able to take the car to work (although I only do this 3-4x per year).

And I think that's a pretty big detail!
I was just shopping around and was pointed to this article: Is Your Car Really Insured? a review of classic-car insurance
Lo and Behold, Grundy begrudgingly agreed to cover my 308, but then told me in no uncertain terms that it was NEVER covered in the parking lot at work or the grocery store (even though the quote paperwork seemed to indicate some leeway). Since driving my 308 to work on a nice day is one of the ways I treat myself, I couldn't go with that.

Thanks for the lead on another avenue to investigate.

Wow, so Grundy won't cover it in a parking lot that isn't part of a car exhibit or parade type activity?

Mine is on Progressive $1300 6 months. Includes a 2010 Mercedes C300 as well. Progressive was easy to deal with on adding it to the policy.

$2k/year with Allstate, no mileage limits, no nothing, drive it like a normal car anytime anywhere.

Funny thing I have 3 other cars and a motorcycle with them and those 4 vehicles are also $2k/year for all 4.

I had quotes from Grundy and Hagerty on the Ferrari at about $1k/year but I could not live with mileage limits.

$1300/6 mos sounds high. I have a friend with a high-end exotic and a Lotus Elise and his premium is $1800/year. (Of course, there are other variables.)

Most of these postings are real policies but they aren't agreed value. For example, State Farm will not do agreed value.
