Even though I own a CS, if I was looking for a do it all Fcar (DD and track day), it'd be a Scud.
As a DD it would be a 599. Pure fun sports car...CS (and save some cash), Scud or stretch the budget a little and get a 16m.
I think it depends on a number of factors: 1. what kind of driving experience are you looking for? No one car is going to be best at everything: A one-hour thrash on twisty back-country roads, a classy touring car that will gobble up the miles on weekend trips, a boulevard cruiser making a statement on a warm evening, etc. 2. What kind of cars have you owned before and what did you like or what fell short with each of them? A feeling of adventure when taking the wheel, pride of ownership/uniqueness, responsive steering and intuitive handling, lightning acceleration, etc. 3. Practical considerations: are you somewhere where ground clearance may be an issue, how many passengers, are you very short or tall or have difficulty getting in and out of low vehicles with wide sills, commuting in traffic, etc. No one car will suit all needs, even a Ferrari.
I have never driven a 458 but I have driven a few other models so I must ask....if you have the wherewithal to jump from $200K to $300K so easily why limit yourself to just one Ferrari, just one make? As a car guy, and if I had your budget, I would purchase a 308GTS, 456GTA and a NSX. If you did not rush into any deal you could easily purchase well maintained examples of all three and save $100K. Sorry but if I had $300K to spend on cars I would need a bigger garage.
The request was for the Ferrari experience, not a station wagon. As good as that car may be, it won't be the experience that he is looking for, unless he is looking for a way to put allot of money on the depreciation train!
Garage space, I love my house and really don't want something bigger. I've got a place in the garage for just one.
That was just my own opinion which is irrelevant. It's your money and life is short so the only thing that matters is if you are happy with your choice.
Right in your budget, although looks like Citroen it is a Ferrari underneath. 2008 Citroen 2CV Nimik for sale | Hemmings Motor News
Great post, and something I would add. A well sorted 355 might be a better transition to the incomparable 458. I echo the front/mid engine vs mid engine qualities. GT vs sports car is a great way to sum it up, find what suits you best.
For some odd reason I just can't make that jump from $330 to $400k, just not yet. That is a sweet ride though! Favorite video so far on Ferarri 458 so far Ferrari 458 vs Ferrari 430 - Top Gear - BBC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgKjp1pq7iI Jeremy "I think if I had just bought a 430, I'd be feeling suicidal now" lol
In that case a revise my suggestion to 458 spider or 458 Speciale. I would take a hard look at the Speciale! BTW, are you considering vintage Ferraris?
I'd recommend spending $50-60K for a nice 328GTS, putting it in the hands of a very highly recommended Ferrari mechanic to sort out- take your time, I'd say- after which he could find a nice, warm garage to keep it in, then spend the rest living in Italy- having bought a nice new red Fiat 500 Abarth to get around the incredibly narrow streets while there, till the spare change ran out. Who knows, you might even be able to come with a nice bilingual "traveling companion" to get you over the occasional linguistic rough spots. Or whatever else might come to mind. But you might think that wouldn't suit your lifestyle; it sure as H... would suit mine, though! But that's just me. Cheers, Rich
