Yes, I will definitely look at doing this soon. The original central console running the length of the car seems to be made out of what feels like a solid block of cast metal. Its ridiculously over engineered and weigh's in at around 9kg's vs the CF 360 Challenge console which is featherlight... Will posts the exact weights soon enough but suffice to say its considerable difference.

The amount of replacement carbon parts on my car now is getting quite silly!

When you start taking these cars apart you realise that they left a LOT of weight savings on the table, especially in out of sight areas that don't need to be pretty. When I installed the mounting for my Braille Li battery I couldn't believe how heavy the standard battery mounting plate is. It must weigh 1.5kg or more.

Here are a few pictures of the carbon fibre foot plates and kick panel on my Scud.

Wow, they look awesome... Better than I imagined they would actually, and I bet even better in real life.

I've already junked that metal mounting plate myself when I replaced the lightweight battery. I remember other things of exceptional weight too such as the passenger batter cover / foot rest, its made of steel and about 2kg's on its own! Another candidate for re-engineering in CF!

Thanks, I think they came up pretty well and it's such a simple mould to make. As you are in the land of F1 carbon fibre manufacture I'm sure you could get an even better result.
I covered mine in 3M stone chip film to give them some resistance to scratching, that was by far the most painful part of the process as the surface has cross hatching just like the aluminium plates.

    lol...

Actually I have been fixing a slow oil leak which was emanating from the gearbox area.

Having traced it I discovered it wasn't coming from the clutch but from a small 'O' ring which after splitting the 'box from the engine I was horrified to see that it was due to a previous botched job!

I believe this was actually done (surprise surprise) by a Ferrari main dealer (which I won't name since I have no proof) but I do have service history for a clutch change they did and as far as I know it hasn't been apart since.

Look at these pictures... Just absolutely shameful, yes that some sort of glue/resin to fix a knackered $3 seal that should have been replaced :( ... Anyway its now being fixed with a new genuine Ferrari seal...

+1; shameful. Likely a push-it-out-the door decision. Considering the part cost.

I am not surprised about the hack job by a dealer, but I am however surprised that you are surprised.

I have seen this. I had a chronic leak on a Boxster from the base of a oil/water pump. After living with my car pissing oil on the ground every where I went for a year or so, I pulled the part and found that the mechanic had failed to remove the tension from the cam chains before removal and had thus broke off the wet oil shaft to the oil side of the pump. Instead of telling me, they stuck some RTV in the hole and assembled. Nice. Funny thing was I had a spare one from another engine that I would have gladly handed over with a smile. To remove the broken shaft piece was quite a feat, I had to drill several holes, tap and insert screws, put a plate on it and hammer out the plate, all once I removed the tensioners ;)

I am glad you solved the leak. I can't stand to have my vehicles leaving even a drop of fluid anywhere.

Not really an update but here's a picture from today's Ferrari Owners Club UK North West Concurs event....

First time I took it out in quite a while. It didn't start well though as ASR light illuminated and stayed on with ABS when I fired her up.

Straight away I knew it was a wheel bearing (well actually one of the Bosch ABS ring sensor's generating a bad signal resistance). However that wasn't going to stop me attending the event. Thankfully after driving a half a mile and restarting it fixed itself. Just goes to show how important it is to regularly drive these cars!

Summary: The car is driving amazingly, so enjoyable I really need to do this more!!!

Here's a pic and I was also quite interested in this too (an awesome 458 Speciale!)...

Hi Trev, do you know the correct Ferrari decal sizes for OEM calipers?
The front/larger ones (without brembo carbon ceramic) and the smaller rear ones?
My F430 is non-CCM but I just bought Brembo GT front BBK with 6-piston calipers and no decals since I want to put Ferrari decals instead.

Received the CS wheel today, one of them is balanced at 10-40, ah! Is there any way to fix that? at the back of the wheel, it reads AlSi7Mg

The logistics company had a weigh machine so I did a test. Turned out that the front CS wheel is 1 kg heavier than the front modena starfish. I guess the rear wheel is 1 kg heavier as well.

    front starfish: 10kg
    front cs wheel: 11kg
rear starfish: not tested as I didn't have tire stripped out
    rear cs wheel: 13kg

    360trev,

If you are still considering this modification, then you might want to take a look at this very accurately designed and executed kit available in carbon fibre. Although it is not a genuine Michelotto part, I still think it would fit nicely with the the theme of your car.

The starfish are very light and pretty strong. Most don't remember that. In their defense, the CS wheels are 19" and starfish are 18", the larger size inevitably leads to more weight. I suspect weight is why the Challenge cars used 18" wheels.

Gents, I've neglected this thread for quite some time. In fairness I've been thousands of miles away recently (In the San Francisco Bay Area), just got back this weekend to UK to a car under quite a level of dust. Shame its so cold here, unlike San Fran which was still baked in glorious sunshine when I left on Friday...

I've got a lot of stuff that requires updates and pictures.

    > 4kg Braille Microlite Battery
    > Full low weight 360 Challenge central console (modified and fitted).
    > Battery Isolation switch (as fitted to 360 Challenge console)
    > Road use Roll Cage and padding.
    > etc...

I'm sure I'll be back over again to Bay Area in a couple of months time... We'll have to see if we can meet up.

As requested here are some pics of a similar cage fitted to a standard 360 Modena.

Mine is also from the same manufacturer (Safety Devices whom are based out of the UK) but is being upgraded at their recommendation since the design no longer meets any current MSA or FIA regulations. Their engineers believe the front and the rear cage will provide sufficient protection on track days although they suggested to weld on a reinforcement plate to the sill so the front leg would bolt-on the plate for extra safety. They have also suggested that the protection provided would greatly improved with door bars and roof diagonal brace to the existing design. All will be covered in FIA approved impact foam and cosmetic OMP covers matching my seats once completed.

Since my car has full harnesses it will be physically impossible to hit any bars once fully strapped in, not necessarily the case for seats and belts like the ones fitted here so as always apply appropriate caution if contemplating doing this to any road car. Your safety is paramount.
