I've always kept a sports car in the garage as a type of weekend driver. Never had any insurance problems dealing with Progressive. I buy and sell one every couple of years...moved through Porsche's 996s, then 997 Twin Turbos, then a 360, now a 430. The 430, with a good driving record, no tickets in the last 8 years, was a second-car add on for about $60 per month, full coverage, $1,000 deductible. However, I live in a small town in rural North Florida and I'm sure that helps keep my rates down.

I hunted around to all the major insurers (Allstate, Progressive, State Farm, Geico, Nationwide, etc.) and all of the specialists (Hagerty, etc.) when I got my 360 last year. In the end, we added it as a third car on our existing policy with Nationwide, and our total cost. For 3 cars / 2 drivers WENT DOWN 40 percent! Guess we were getting screwed for a while there...

Condon Skelly. As long as you are not using the fcar as a daily driver and have a garage for it. Huge savings.

Like Real Estate, Car Insurance is many times about Location, Location, and Location. In my market, for example, some carriers have extremely high rates to dissuade people from taking coverage.

I just called for quotes on an F430 to see what they would say:

Progressive won't go with an "Agreed Value" Policy greater than $150k, and they want $3200/yr for that.
    Hagerty wants $3700/yr.
    State Farm wants $3100/yr.
    Grundy is at $2000/yr.
    Classic Collectors is at $2600/yr.

That is all garage kept, agreed value, collector/pleasure vehicle, 2k miles per year, with deductibles ranging from $1000 to $2500.

It's probably best for you to call around and see what fits your market and needs. Everyone I spoke with was more than happy to provide a quote.

Wow! Not gonna get that kind of quote in NY with GEICO.

Condon Skelly...agreed value of $160k, 2k miles per year, no winter layup (I opted out cuz I want to be able to drive my car on nice winter days), around $1700 per year.

Looks to me like a good deal is about $1 or less for each $100 of agreed value. I.e. 1%/year.

So if your F430 is a $120K car, $1200/year sounds good.

2006 F 430, Jacksonville Fl area, 4th car, no tickets in family, PROGRESSIVE, I think $5k deductible or whatever the max is, market value, no milage or driver restriction, cost is under $1000 per year. Before I had HAGGERTY, similar coverage only 2500 mi restricion and only me covered, cost $2700 year. Insurance is a rip off. Make a claim and your rates skyrocket, if they keep you. Make a claim and the fight begins. In 1993 I totaled a Porsche,(no one hurt) after no claims ever. I mean ever for like 25 years, car, homeowners etc, all handled by same company. Within two days I lost all coverage not just cars but HO as well and had to go through our business for help. To an extent I consider it self supporting insurance.

It is something to consider. I never take my important cars into questionable areas.

Recently switched from Allstate to Heacock Classic--cut the cost in half with better coverage. (In FL)

Do you have a contact for them? It seems Grundy is very picky about when they cover. I was going to call classic collectors tomorrow to get some detail for them.

From what I understand from Grundy, I can go out to dinner, car events, etc. But if I stop off for a loaf of bread on the way home from one of these trips, I'm not covered in that lot because it is considered running an errand. I should first go home, pick up a daily, and then go back out. :/

Unless something has recently changed at Grundy, they do not have mileage restrictions whatsoever. They also have no deductible. I've used them for 14 years, they are great.

Correct on no mileage restriction, but they do have a deductible of $1k (in what I was offered). The big issue is that the vehicle can never, ever, be used for any sort of errand and/or driven to work. It can only be used for leisure cruises/dinners and/or car/collector events.

    Is your policy different?

Classic Collectors has a mileage restriction of 3k (more than I need, more than likely) and they cover the occasional errand/stop for just a week bit more.

I recently sold my car, and cancelled the policy. There was no deductible, ever. Yes, there was a work exclusion, but that was all that I can recall. The car could be driven for any other type of pleasure driving, and yes, I made the occasional Costco run. The only thing they wanted, was evidence of a "daily driver", so I sent them my vehicle registration for my BMW. Each time, I upgraded the Ferrari, they would request another copy of the registration of the current 'daily driver', that was all. Bottom line, I made two claims over 14 years and three different Ferraris, and none of that EVER came up, or was questioned. They claims were handled quickly and professionally, with no problems.

I'm in the market for a F430B, and will sign back up with Grundy, without question.

I'll give them a call as the paperwork is sort of "grey area". I have no intention of driving it to work, so the work exclusion is fine with me. There also may be differences in coverage based on state law.

As an aside: Whenever I go to Costco, I need to bring the truck and trailer because I tend to buy one of everything. What in the world could you possible buy at Costco that fits in the luggage compartment? :)

Am just about to close with Classic Collectors. 2003 360, $1077 annual premium, Agreed Value, 6k miles a year, no work exclusion, etc.

Wow, the 430 figures are stiff.

Agreed Value is probably higher on the 430's. With Classic, it looks like something around $140-150 per $10k value assuming work exclusion and 3k miles. Underwritten by Sentinel Casualty.
