So I need some expert advice. I have been looking around for a Testarossa for a while, and a friend of mine who is a dealer that I trust and have bought from in the past has one that he is offering to me. It is a 1990 with 18,000 miles. It had the 30,000 mile engine out service done in 2009 at 16,700 miles. It has all of the service receipts going back 2004, when the last owner purchased it, and at that time it had 12,000 miles on it. The body is straight, and other than the typical wear on the driver side bolster, it looks like a really nice car. Interior is good, no body or pain problems, I believe that it has the tool kit, doesn't have the luggage. I can get this one for $75K.

This is a totally different animal than the American cars that I have. I think that the Testarossas are undervalued and have room to go up in value. In reading about TR's, it seems that the early, flying mirror, non-automatic seat belt cars are valued higher, but this seems to be a solid TR, and I would hate to pass on a good deal waiting for a better deal on an earlier TR that doesn't come. I wanted to see what you Ferrari experts thought about this one in terms of value, and is there anything specific that I need to check and look for on this car?

This car is going to need the engine out major pretty soon. That is a big ticket item. Just be aware of that.

Just FYI, my TR has 17k miles on it and it went 9 years without a belt service before I bought it. Not a guarantee, of course, but just something to consider. I got the belt svc done earlier this year qs a precaution and the belts looked fine.

Personally it sounds like you are buying it to speculate. Not sure it's a good idea. Echo the comments about the major coming up and that bill is not cheap. That said, 1990 and 75 K seems like a good price. Factor in the engine out service and now it looks like 85K - still interested? I would but for the drive not the investment.

Please post pics and more details, but so far Sounds great for 75k! Dont be scared off by the Timing , the car needs to be driven and has only covered 1300 miles in 5 years! the belts are still new. take it from a TR owner when I say GO FOR IT!

Flying mirror cars are valued higher? While this would be music to my ears, I don't think this is the case. If you want a MonoSpeccio wait until one comes around...there is no substitute!

Spend time here and read, read, read. Use the search engine, it's pretty decent. We will help you with questions, but you must do a certain amount of the legwork yourself. These are complicated/uncomplicated cars depending on your skillsets. Read teh parts crossover thread, it addresses many of the common issues and is very educational.
Ownership can be terribly rewarding, but set a a few bucks aside each year for future potential service or "oh sh*t" moment.
Not a bad price, but not a steal either on this particular car.
