This is driving me nuts. I have an HP with win 8. Yesterday, i noticed that i lose sound after it goes to sleep and back on. BUT..not all type of sound. I can still play the windows .wav files from the sound control panel (Critical stop, asterix etc..). However when i play a movie file (.mp4) or when i go on youtube or any other site, there is no sound at all.

It comes back when i reboot.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing the sound drivers but it doesnt help.

I have no idea what to try next.

Try uninstalling the sound drivers. Reboot and let windows install them via plug and play.

I did. Didnt help. I actually noticed that i also lose sound randomly. Was watching a movie. Then went to type an email and when i resumed the movie, no more sound. But i still have sound when i access the sound panel and do all the tests they allow you (Stereo tests, windows sound tests..).

any recent installs? probably driver issue, as stated before. May have to try a few before you get the right one (aka the problem child). Wouldn't think a windows update would mess it up, unless it dealt with media

    i had a similar issue running win 7 ...

found that for reasons i have yet to figure out, the device in use for sound had been changed ... so no sound ...

so thru control panel/sounds ... reset to the correct speakers in use ...

    hope this helps ...
