Hey guys, after not driving the 430 for a few months the battery ended up dieing out on me so I put it to charge for a while, power came back to life and the lights and radio were working I tried to start it and it cranked but didn't start. So I left it be for a Lil while longer. When I came back I tried to start it again and this time I got no response for the engine. I hold down the brake peddle and push the start button with Zero activity. I tried leaving my foot off the brake and that didn't work either.

I even tried telling my baby I was sorry for not driving her for so long but didn't didn't work.

So I don't know if she is mad at me and playing hard to get or did I $!#@ something up?

Please help with any advise you may have.

    Thanks.

what would be the easiest best battery to purchase and install ? I've been reading a little about the optima r43, is that still a good battery ?

I like the Optimas, and I believe the 34R fits well.

That said, if you don't put it on some sort of charger/maintainer like a Granite Digital or a CTEK, you are going to destroy an Optima battery just as well. Sure, it might take more of a beating before it gives in, but eventually they too will fail if not maintained.

Personally, I'm trying to find a way to get a Yellow Top 34 to fit. :)

Just put an Odyssey 34R in my 430. Slightly taller than the original battery so you may have to use longer J bolts on the hold down. Other than that smooth sailing.

And get yourself a battery tender - well worth the $50!!

Do you have any photos of the J-Bolts? I take it you did not connect the vent tube to anything when you swapped?

I didn't take any photos. There is no vent required on the Odyssey so just left it disconnected. The J-Bolts weren't long enough in mine so I cut them near the unthreaded end and welded in a 3/4" piece cut from a long 1/4" bolt. Was almost exactly the same size and after cleaning up with a grinder and spraying them black it would be hard to tell. I didn't look to see if I could find longer bolts but that may be an option. The stock J-bolts are a 10mm bolt, but a 1/4-20 would probably be easier to find at least in the US and work just as well.

Is there enough room to bend the J ? It sounds like it is really close.

I don't think so but I guess see how much length you need after fitting the battery
