    If you were completely bored with nothing better to do, you should have set up a sting with "Monica" actually going to Ely :) Though, at some point it can get a bit dangerous, and I doubt police would appreciate it...

    Nope. Radio silence, as expected.

    He hasn't returned Monica's emails, and won't answer the phone -- even though I announce myself with my real name when I call. :)

    He's probably too scared to actually pick up and talk to me... especially since he probably knows by now I'd record it (it's legal to record phone calls across state lines if one party on the call knows it's being recorded).

    Steve, I can't believe he has the audacity to call you a child molester. That's waaaay crossing the line man, just plain filthy to the worst possible extent. Being a murderer is one thing, but crimes against kids bring a special kind of hell fire. It's so wrong to accuse someone of that. So wrong dude.

    A google search of the IP address 72.167.238.29 comes up to a house in Scottsdale AZ. A public records search shows the name of the owner of the property. A further search reveals a phone number. This individual, however is 75 years old and not likely to be involved in a scam. A friendly call to him may reveal if he knows anyone named Mark Raider.

    So glad this thread got resurrected since I missed it the first time around, and it's a must-read.

    Steve, you handled the whole thing with humor and grace. The conversation with "Monica" reminded me of some of the stuff on the ebolamonkeyman site, where people turn the tables on Nigerian scammers. Well done!
