They're not hermetically sealed in the old bangers.

Aircraft are actually filled with pure nitrogen and then sealed to be airtight

If the instrument is not sealed correctly it will allow moisture in which will announce itself as fogging on the glass under temperature variations from inside and out.

If you had gone to a good school you'd know this

Thanks, such a great idea, then had to install USB-DB9 adapter and come to grief when you upgrade to a W8 machine

Normal pleb mucking around on faceslam or twithead wouldn't know they were gone but some of us use them for work and the useful real estate is disappearing

 

I've lost count of the number of those USB-serial thingies I've lost I'm gonna start adding $20 to all my device-with-console-port quotes to make sure one of them gets left permanently attached to it so I don't end up swearing about mine going missing yet again
