    Pete,
Please don't say, "Good bye". You have too much to contribute to the vast majority of us. I have to assume that you are too big a man to believe that you can let the gnats get you down.
This is my second journey into the F-car world, and one of my fondest memories is the quality of events and generosity I received from the British FOC group in the mid 80s when I visited for a long weekend and the British Grand Prix.
Your posts and threads have taken me down Memory Lane. I had been planning to wait until I completed your 275 thread before I responded to you personally.
While there is a lot of great info here, this is probably the most vitriolic car forum I've been involved with. But the bottom line is, "there is a LOT of good info here".

I see comradery from 348 and 355 owners alike above..!!?!? That’s how it should be on this thread. In fact all Ferrari treads. We are all Ferraristi and I for one will be until the day I die and forums like this (which I think is by far the best available) are a great chance for all of us to share valuable knowledge of our chosen models. For us when we have problems this site becomes a portal to god himself sometimes as we get ourselves out of tough, sometimes expensive situations, simply because someone else on the thread bothers to educate us with his/her hard earned experience.
I love the marque with a passion and anyone who visits my home would know in an instant. For example I only sleep in Ferrari T shirts (assuming my lovely lady doesn’t nick them first)… see … that’s passion :)
I for one really hope the 355 bretheren don’t take this banter to much heart and see it for what it is. Don’t start a separate thread and stay with us here and let’s keep having a hell of a good time as one.
Even GerryD who I see is obviously as passionate as any Ferraristi alive about his 355 just as we all are about our babies ! I’m sure you have plenty to share with us GD as well so even though I’ve been taking the micky out of you I do want you with us….. but only if you admit at least our tyres are similar (nuts bolts and washers aside) :)

Pete, go back and look at who 'kicked up the Hornets nest' back on the first page. This is a regular occurrence here and does not happen in 348 threads. I'm not sure why this has to happen in every single thread that says good things about a 355, but it does and it is invariably a 348 owner. The only unspoiled threads I can think of are the 355 picture threads and you can read through all 20 or 30 pages and you will not find a single bad word about the 348. Why? Because none of the 348 owners have gone in and kicked up the Hornets nest yet.

One would think there might be a problem with other marques having this type of bickering. I guess in any family some of the siblings don't always get along. As someone else put it we are all Ferrari owners. There are more commonalities than differences especially when it comes to the 348/355. Same as the 360/430's. That's why the forum is set up like it is.:)

This past weekend I saw a beautiful 348 at Limerock racetrack. Red/Tan of course.

Red/tan. How boring. Can't these damn Ferrari owners think out of the box. Red/tan! Why did it have to be red/tan? :)

By the way, for those who keep count there are currently 23 348 listed on cars.com, 51 355s. Prices on both models are much higher than last year. There is actually a 348 with a $69k ask! Same for 308s. There are only a few listed but one is at $60k.

If you haven't bought one yet they may be out of reach for many soon.

So quick story of my weekend at a car show. Before i even type it , i dont mean any bad toward either model , just an observation. This was alocal car show , old muscle cars basically , crowd unfamiliar with ferrari's . you have my 348 , a 355 and an etype v12 jag. Almost everyone walks up to me and starts the conversation with , boy that must be expensive to fix and so on. And i reply as i always do , the parts are expensive , but its a simple car , so no its not really expensive. Then they wander to the 355 and he's spouting off about 9k for a clutch, 7k for a belt change, and even over 1k to have the valve covers refinished ( my powder coat shop charged me $75.00) every body walked away either rolling their eyes or laughing , some even came back my way and made some really derogatory remarks. Yet none of the conversation around the etype was about expense to own? just sayin

Exactly. It happens each and every time and mark my words it will again. It is always either a 348 owner or someone in the 348 "club" (FBB, vrsurgeon, i.e.) who has never owned a 355 or just a random fchat troll like what started the mess in this thread.

I am still scratching my head in wonderment as to why these people who have never owned a 355 or state they dont want to own one feel like it is their duty and obligation to stir the pot regarding 355s.

I for one don't troll the 360 section and look for threads extolling 360s to counter the thread and I have never posted on any of the endless threads in here about how the 348 is all that trying to counter the enthusiasm of owners.

I for one will be countering any of this garbage that I am witness to in here.

Thats the point, its not the car , its what you make of it, everybody's experience is different.i meant no bad about the car. That's why i pointed out an item the same on both cars , the valve cover refinish , mine $75.00 his over $1000. end result the same , nicely refinished valve covers. now there' people walkng away going , omg a thousand dollars to refinish the valve covers on a ferrari.

Was going to just walk away but may as well answer a few things. Maybe I will get a 24 hour ban, and maybe Gerry will get one for calling me stupid. Neither would achieve a great deal. I managed to get a degree with honours from Oxford university so I'm probably not all that stupid and I very much expect that Gerry is not a puppet of any type. Just guys letting off steam.

Hi Bob. Truth is I haven't been here so I know nothing about any 348 trolling that may or may not have been going on. The 'kick' on the first page was a wise crack about the cost of maintaining a 355, a response to which could have been "whatever.....". If that's all it takes to send guys into orbit then I would suggest the Hornets need to calm down a tad.

What I wrote was in response to a quote about performance differentials between models and an implication that that made the 348 a bad car. Maybe the 348 is a bad car (to some) but what was quoted was factually incorrect. This was not my opinion it was just plain and simple fact. I explained why. In that I said the 355 was an improved variant, they took things from the 348 Le Mans cars and put it directly on the 355, they took bits from other models too in order to improve the 348 and make the 355. The car went from not existing to being the 348, it was then developed further to make the 355. So yes, the majority of the development happened to take the car from nothing to on the road in 348 form but that's not to say they didn't change quite a bit in pushing the development further to build the 355.

For some reason which still escapes me that was taken as a slur on the 355. Maybe to some saying the 355 is in essence a highly modified (and improved) 348 is a slur but it's hardly likely that I meant that due to the fact that I own a 348. From a fan of the 348 it's more in the nature of a compliment.

Still don't really 'get' what's happened on here. When I left it was 355 guys incessantly having a pop at 'cheap' 348s and when it was done in banter it was generally taken as just guys having a laugh and most of us gave as good as we got. Shame really.

Very bold to say "every single thread a 348 owner....". Can you please reference this?

I just checked Page 1. Where is there a 348 owner kicking up the hornet's nest? Bullfighter does not own a 348.

Again, a very bold accusation. Does it really happen each and every time? Can you back this up?

As for 355 owners not bashing the 348 - you guys are both mistaken. GerryD is the most anti-348 individual I know.

This is starting to look like the P&R section, where a specific ethnic group is stereotyped as.....

I believe it was you and Vince that decided to kick up the nest this time around. Nobody mentioned the 348 until Vince brought it up. And so it goes. Oh well.

Yes it happens each and every time. I'm not going to spend the time digging up threads but there are three active right now with this happening

    This thread
    Monty's thread

No one is stereotyping anyone. I am merely illuminating a behavior that occurs.

I guess this is supposed to hint at the fact that i have never had the " privlage " to ride in a precious 355. Let me inform you of something , i'm a car dealer with a few million dollars of buying power, i have owned a greater variety of cars than you will ever dream of, i want a gt2 , or whatever all i do is go to the next auction, raise my hand to bid , and i own it . Think before you speak
