This item is probably the single most evocative automotive styling detail of the late '80s/early '90s.

The outrageousness of the F40 was never topped, and this took it to 11.

Just read the entire thread and lost track of time in the process. It's 2 am and I regret nothing about it. What an amazing car and amazing build thread! Can't
    wait to see it finished!

What is the function of that CF (what looks like an adjustable) strip that runs full width?

It's a Gurney flap. Generates massive down force for such a tiny little thing. The wing also has a much larger Gurney flap (adjustable as well). This down force is why the rear shell has the vertical buttress in the middle that regular F40s don't. At >170mph the down force is enough to warp the rear clam shell at the wing support point.

The aim is to hang on to it forever and never sell, but then one should never say never! Where am I going to find anything that looks like this again.......

I would not drive it, to many chances that something could happen to it

Put it in a Plexi Glass Booth and charge people to see it... hahaha

But then it's no longer a car.

Look after it but drive it and enjoy it. Life's too short.

That's how I approach car ownership as well - never sell; for the cars I love!

This thread is amazing; one of the best on the internet. Thanks again for sharing all these details on one of the greatest cars ever imagined.

    Beautiful as always.

Question; does the waste gate heat shield have any heat absorbing material underneath, just curious?

F that...I'd drive it as much as possible. Road, track, Euro trips...

Otherwise Traveller could've saved himself a buck or two and bought a poster (and a scale model if he really wanted ;)).

I see that the thread has passed 1/2 million views. And I recall worries early on that no one would care ... :)

Thanks for all the positive replies and still some way to go.

Finally given ourselves a deadline as invited by CEO Ferrari Northern Europe to Silverstone Ferrari Racing Days on 13th September so how could I say no? A perfect backdrop to getting the car back out there.
